Chapter 101

"Sam, just the guy we were looking for," Dirk stated with a smug tone, before getting elbowed in the side by Hudson. Delilah also shoots him a glare.

"What's going on?" Sam snaps.

"Ok so. We found out a few things. One, Joel is dead, yay," Dirk says.

"Two, it was your kid who killed and is eating him," Hudson juts in, "And three, we can die."

"I'm sorry eating?" Sam asks him to repeat, looking concerned. Angel looks physically ill almost at the mention of Joel being eaten and walks away.

"Yeah. Freaky shit," Dirk says. Hudson elbows him again. Vanessa looks stunned and then looks at Sam, silently telling him to fix the problem.

"I- What the fuck?" Sam muttered.

"... Sam, didn't you say Toby's been saying the shadow thing wasn't messing with him anymore?" Delilah gently interjects.

"Hm? Yeah?" Sam responds.

"I think Toby doesn't generate enough remnant to support both of them. Mike mentioned it as a possibility when Stanley still had minireenas in his body and he was wearing out faster. He needs to get remnant from an outside source to stay alive, and he wouldn't know that. It would though," Delilah explains.

"Why do you have such random knowledge?" Dirk asks, before Hudson steps on his foot to shut him up.

"Oh... So... He will keep eating people?" Sam looked genuinely concerned, and Vanessa began to run her hand through her hair as she paced.

"No. There are other ways to get remnant, but we need it to be him and not it," Delilah says.

"He's already mostly ate Joel. Would that have him ok for a while?" Hudson asked.

"It's hard to tell," Delilah shrugged, "but someone needs to find Devon, and someone needs to get Toby."

"I'll get Toby. Pretty sure I'm the only thing who can take down that rabbit if I need to," Sam muttered, walking away.

"I'm gonna go lay down," Edward said in a soft tone, walking off.

"I'll find Devon. You guys stay here if Sam needs help. Not like he'll ask," Vanessa snaps, stomping away. Delilah looked a bit dejected and looked at Hudson and Dirk.

"So... We can die?" Dirk asked.

"Not easily," Delilah responds.
