Haeeun woke up earlier than the two boys. Luckily, she had won the rock-paper-scissors game last night, which determined their sleeping arrangements. She had chosen the edge of the bed, so when the alarm she had set on her phone rang, neither of the boys woke up and continued to sleep peacefully.
It was still early, not her usual wake-up time, but Haeeun was determined to help the Na family prepare for their beach outing. Both families had decided to spend the weekend at the beach, and with no school or work on Monday, they were looking forward to a long, relaxing weekend.
After quickly going through her morning routine, Haeeun headed downstairs and ran into Jaemin's dad. They exchanged cheerful greetings, and he asked her about the boys. Haeeun mentioned that they were still asleep and that she had gotten up early to help.
"You should have slept in," Heemin suggested. "Aeri isn't up yet either. Maybe you should wake her."
Haeeun shook her head. "No, uncle, it's okay. I really want to help today."
"That's very kind of you, Haeeun. Just make sure you're not putting too much pressure on yourself."
"I'm not, I promise. I'm happy to help."
"Great! Then come on, help me pack up."
Haeeun enjoyed working with Jaemin's dad. He was surprisingly chatty in the morning, which was a nice contrast to her own quieter nature. His bright energy helped her start the day on a positive note.
After packing up the mats, grills, and other supplies, Haeeun went to the kitchen to wash her hands. There, she was greeted warmly by Jaemin's mom and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"You're so beautiful, you know that?" Mihi complimented out of the blue, sending Haeeun into shy mode while she waited for the pasta to boil.
"Auntie, you really like to surprise me."
Mihi let out a hearty laugh and playfully tapped Haeeun's arm. "I'm excited for grandkids. I'm sure they'll have ridiculously gorgeous looks."
Haeeun's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Oh my god, ma'am, stop."
"You tease her a lot," Heemin chimed in, coming into the kitchen with a chuckle and starting to help with the food.
"Right, it's early in the morning," Haeeun huffed.
"Am I wrong, though?" Mihi asked, glancing at her husband.
Heemin shook his head. "Not at all. I'm sure our future generation will look like Greek gods."
"Oh, yeah, it's definitely the wrong decision to be here," Haeeun groaned, to which the couple responded with a laugh.
After about an hour, the sound of footsteps descending the stairs was heard. It was clear who was coming, but it was also surprising to see Aeri joining them with her bed hair sticking out in every direction.
Jaemin could be heard teasing his twin about her disheveled appearance, while Donghyuck stretched his arms above his head. Their puffy eyes and the way they struggled to stay awake clearly showed it was still too early for them.
"Well, hello, gorgeous." Haeeun greeted Aeri with a teasing smile.
Aeri rolled her eyes. "They literally barged into my room, thinking that you were in there."
