The campus buzzed with the chaotic energy of college life, but inside their shared apartment, the atmosphere felt cocooned and safe. Donghyuck lounged on the couch, his feet propped up on the coffee table, scrolling through his phone. The smell of something sweet wafted from the kitchen, where Haeeun was attempting to bake cookies, a rare moment of domesticity in their otherwise hectic lives. Jaemin sat at the dining table, books spread out in front of him, his brow furrowed in concentration.
"Okay, I think I added too much sugar," Haeeun said, peeking into the oven, where a batch of cookies was rising suspiciously.
"Is that even possible?" Donghyuck teased, looking up from his phone. "You could probably drown us in sugar and we'd still want more."
Haeeun shot him a mock glare. "I'm trying to create a comforting environment here!"
Jaemin chuckled softly, glancing up from his notes. "You're doing great, Haeeun. But just remember, comfort food doesn't have to be perfectly baked."
Their laughter echoed through the small apartment, a sanctuary amidst the pressures of their final year. Suddenly, Haeeun's phone buzzed on the table, breaking the moment. She picked it up, her expression shifting as she read the message.
"It's my mom," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Donghyuck raised an eyebrow. "Sunha? What does she want?"
Haeeun took a deep breath, her fingers trembling slightly. "She's... she's reminding me about the family business."
Jaemin leaned closer, concern etched on his face. "What did she say?"
Haeeun's voice quivered. "She insists that I'm expected to join Baek Holdings after graduation. That I don't have a choice."
Donghyuck frowned. "You ran away from home for a reason, right? You don't have to go back to that."
"I know," Haeeun replied, frustration building in her tone. "But she has a way of making me feel trapped. Like I owe it to the family to follow the path they've laid out for me."
"Maybe it's time to set some boundaries," Jaemin suggested gently. "You're not a child anymore. You can make your own choices."
Haeeun looked at them, the love and support from her partners grounding her. "I know I should set boundaries, but it's so hard especially when she magically find new ways to contact me."
"What did you say?" Donghyuck asked, curiosity piqued.
Haeeun set her phone down on the kitchen counter with a shrug. "I just left her on read."
"Good move," Donghyuck said, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Sometimes silence speaks louder than words."
"Yeah, but it doesn't feel like enough," Haeeun sighed, rubbing her temples. "It's like she's always looming over me, no matter how far I run."
Jaemin reached out, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You're not alone in this, Haeeun. We'll face her together if it comes to that."
Just then, Haeeun's phone buzzed again, and she glanced at it hesitantly. "It's another message."
"Don't read it," Donghyuck said, shaking his head. "Let's focus on something positive. How about we plan a little bonding for the weekend? Just the three of us."
