CHAPTER 50 - GRADUATION

207 20 3

The air buzzed with excitement and nostalgia as the university lawn filled with soon-to-be graduates in caps and gowns. Haeeun, Donghyuck, and Jaemin stood in a cluster with their friends, taking in the scene. The sun was high, a gentle breeze stirring the petals of flowers that friends and families had brought to celebrate. It was finally here: graduation day.

Jaemin nudged Haeeun, who was busy fixing her cap for the fifth time, the tassel catching slightly in her hair. "You're overthinking it," he teased. "It looks perfect."

"Maybe," she huffed, casting a sheepish glance his way, "but I don't want to look ridiculous in all the photos. This tassel has a mind of its own."

Donghyuck chuckled, reaching over to give the tassel a quick, definitive tug so it hung just right. "There. Now you're officially ready for the spotlight." He gave her a wink.

Aeri joined them, her face alight with excitement. "Look at us! I can't believe we're finally graduating," she said, slinging an arm around her brother. "And you"—she pointed at Haeeun—"I can't believe you made it without decking Sera. That's character growth."

"Oh, I came close," Haeeun admitted, laughing. "But thanks to these two, I managed." She gestured to Donghyuck and Jaemin, who both nodded with playful self-importance.

Soon, Minjeong joined their group with Jimin, both of them clutching their caps in hand as they fixed each other's hair. Minjeong grinned, glancing between Haeeun, Jaemin, and Donghyuck. "I knew you three were going to survive this place, but I have to say—I'm impressed. All of us together!"

Jimin nodded, adding, "And we didn't even lose our sanity. Mostly."

Just as the laughter between them grew, a familiar voice called out from behind. "Haeeun-ah!" Her dad, Gyeol, was making his way over, Yura and Louise behind him.

Haeeun's dad looked at her with pride, his eyes shining. "I can't believe how quickly you've grown up. It feels like just yesterday you were starting school."

Yura smiled as she handed Haeeun a delicate bouquet of lilies. "We're so proud of you, Haeeun. You've worked so hard for this moment. Don't forget to celebrate yourself today."

Just as Haeeun took the flowers, Donghyuck's family joined them. His younger brother, Sohee, looked around at the crowd with wide eyes, while Mina, Donghyuck's mom, placed a hand on her son's shoulder.

"Look at you, all grown up," she said, beaming at him. "We're so proud, Donghyuck."

Donghyuck shrugged, trying to act nonchalant. "Aw, it's no big deal, Mom."

Daeseon, his dad, chuckled. "You say that, but we saw how many nights you stayed up studying. You've earned this."

Sohee tugged on Donghyuck's gown, looking up at him with big eyes. "Hyung, are you going to be a doctor now?"

Donghyuck laughed, ruffling his little brother's hair. "Not yet, but soon enough! Just a few more steps."

Jaemin's parents, Heemin and Mihi, joined them, embracing Jaemin tightly. His mother's eyes were already misty as she pulled back to look at him. "I knew you could do it, Jaemin. We're so incredibly proud."

Heemin, usually reserved, gave him a firm pat on the shoulder. "You've made us very proud, son."
