[I Bet on Losing Dogs - Mitski]

Tue. 3rd January 1995 - 10:17am...

Following on from the previous events of last night, I wake up to hear talking between Professors Lupin and McGonagall.

Draco had stayed the whole night, sleeping on the chair with his arms crossed and head tilted downwards. His position didn't even look comfortable, but he was in a deep sleep regardless.

Sitting up, the two teachers approached me.

Draco jumps, covering his face to play it of to the Professors that he wasn't just asleep a second ago.

"Miss. Potter..." McGonagall starts, immediately becoming a loss for words. Sympathy riddled across her soft expression.

"Jane," Lupin passed a handful of letters to me and nods. "Due to your current condition, you are being allowed to continue to take it easy. You're excused from class for as long as you wish."

"Professor Dumbledore sends his apologies."

I frown, scoffing. "He couldn't come down from his office to tell me himself?"

The two share a glance, and Lupin continued.

"The Minister, and surprisingly Mr. Malfoy, were in a very... heated discussion about the situation. Thanks to Draco." Lupin's eyes shift to my boyfriend for a moment, then back to me.

"The consequences from such a situation like this, are being dealt with. And you will be compensated for your injuries," McGonagall smiled reassuringly at me. She pats Draco's shoulder, "You may go, if Jane wishes for you to visit her this evening, I will allow it."

Draco rubbed his face, squeezing my hand, before he left the room.

McGonagall followed after him.

Lupin waits for the door to close over, then he spoke. "Sirius almost threatened to come out of hiding to take care of you. He's wrote you a few letters, to catch up on the letters you and your brother sent him over the last couple of months."

I sift through the envelopes on my lap, spotting one labeled from the Ministry. I ignore it, and search for Sirius' first letter.

"Here, I brought you some chocolate too." Lupin placed a large bar of chocolate from Honeydukes on the sheets. "If you need anything, Madam Pomfrey isn't too far away. Her office is only down the hallway, to your left."

I nod, breaking open the first wax seal to read the note,

Dear little Snake,

Your suspicions of your brother sending me letters before you, have proven correct. Harry wrote of the tournament and the Minister's involvement, along with Rita Skeeter.

As well as a man called Bartemius Crouch, who's involved in the Ministry as an Official, and father to the recently deceased ex-Deatheater.

The journalist's interest in the situation has created me to grow wary about the possibility of her exposing a little too much information to the public eye.
