Whispers of the Woods

' That man.... Those blue eyes....

I didn't see anyone's face in my dream, but I saw him.... '

The dream's vivid details dissolve, leaving only the face of one person clearly etched in her thoughts.

She whispers to herself, “Edwin.”

Then shaking those things on her head
' No, no, no! How is this possible? Just yesterday, I met a guy for the first time, and now I’m so attracted to him that I’m having such... erotic dreams about him?!'

Embarrassed, Aurora gets out of bed, quickly completes her morning routine—showering and having breakfast—before heading to her usual workplace.

As she follows her regular route to the café, she finds herself inexplicably drawn towards the forest again. Her steps seem to slow and then stop entirely, as if some invisible force is pulling her towards the dense, shadowy woods.

Standing there, gazing at the forest, Aurora feels a strange compulsion, an almost magnetic pull. She stands motionless, caught between her curiosity and hesitation. In a state of almost trance-like fascination, she takes a tentative step towards the forest, her movements feeling almost automatic, as if her body is moving independently of her will.

Ring - ring -

The sudden, jarring sound of a bicycle bell snaps Aurora out of her trance-like state. She looks around, disoriented, as her mind returns to the present.

" What was I just—" she starts to think, but her attention is drawn to a young boy, about 10 or 12 years old, calling out to her.

"Aurora!" he shouts.

Aurora looks at him, slightly surprised. "Hey, little boy, what are you doing here with these postcards today?"

Moonridge is a close-knit community, and Aurora, having lived there for several years, knows nearly everyone in town.

The boy explains, "My dad had some important errands to run today, so he asked me to distribute these postcards around town."

Aurora nods, "I see."

The boy, noticing her earlier direction, asks, "By the way, where were you going towards the forest?"

Aurora hesitates before replying, "Oh... nothing, just... here and there."

As the boy questions Aurora’s casual attitude towards the forest, he asks, "What do you mean by 'just here and there'?"

Aurora, trying to brush off his concern, replies, "Oh, don’t worry too much, kid! Just go ahead with your task, okay?"

" Yeah, yeah, alright." The boy, still with a tone of concern, adds, " And listen, don’t be too curious and wander around here. My dad said that when they’re out delivering postcards or at night, they hear strange noises now, which wasn’t the case before."

Aurora, taken aback, responds, "Really?"

The boy nods, "Yes, my dad mentioned that it’s only been happening recently. It’s unusual."

Aurora nods, "Alright, I’ll keep that in mind. You take care too."

With this exchange, the boy heads off to continue his task, leaving Aurora with a sense of unease. She watches him go as she also goes away on her way back.

Aurora arrives at the café and begins her regular duties, seamlessly transitioning into her daily routine. Despite her focus on work, her thoughts frequently drift back to Edwin, his image lingering in her mind. She tries to push these thoughts aside, but her gaze keeps wandering towards the door, hoping he might walk in and give her another chance to see him.

Throughout the day, her distraction is evident. She finds herself daydreaming about Edwin, wishing he would visit the café again. She struggles to maintain her concentration, her mind constantly drifting back to the enigmatic stranger.

As the workday comes to an end and Aurora prepares to head home, she receives a message from Lily. The message reads, "What are you up to?"

Aurora types back, "Just heading home."

Aurora's phone buzzes with a new message from Lily. It reads, "Oh, I had such a great time today. The entire office staff is having a party tonight."

Aurora replies, "Good, have fun."

Moments later, Lily sends a photo of herself at the party, surrounded by her office colleagues. They are seated at a table, laughing and enjoying their time together. The atmosphere in the picture is lively and festive, capturing the camaraderie and joy of the gathering.

Aurora looks at the photo and smiles, then puts her phone away with a resigned sigh, muttering to herself, "Well, someone's enjoying themselves."

Lily, Aurora's only close friend, is 24 years old and works as a normal office worker. Despite the age difference of about four years, the two share a close bond, with Lily often serving as a supportive presence in Aurora’s life.

As Aurora makes her way home, she encounters the forest once again. The dense, lush greenery seems to beckon her with an almost magnetic pull, stronger than before. The vibrant, verdant landscape appears to whisper to her, suggesting that something hidden within the woods is calling out to her.

Her instincts are heightened, driving her curiosity and sense of allure to a peak. Despite her earlier attempts to resist, she can no longer ignore the compelling force drawing her in. The urge to explore the forest overcomes her hesitation.

As she walked deeper into the woods, the sounds of the town faded away, replaced by the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds. The air felt cooler, and the scent of pine was stronger here.

She didn't know how long she had been walking when she suddenly felt it – the inexplicable pull that had been nagging at her all day. She followed it, her steps quickening as if guided by an unseen force.

Then she saw him.

In a small clearing ahead, a massive wolf stood. Its fur was brown, almost blending into the shadows, and its eyes – those piercing blue eyes – locked onto hers. Aurora froze, her heart pounding in her chest.

The wolf didn't move, but its gaze held hers with an intensity that sent shivers down her spine. But somehow She felt no fear, only a strange sense of connection, as if she had known this creature all her life.

Without thinking, she took a step forward. The wolf's ears perked up, and it took a cautious step towards her. Airora's breath caught in her throat. She reached out a hand, but before she could get any closer, a branch snapped somewhere behind her.

The wolf's head snapped to the side, and with a low growl, it turned and disappeared into the trees.

"Wait!" Aurora called out, but it was too late. The wolf was gone, leaving her standing alone in the clearing.
