Betrayal ?
Aurora sat at her desk, her movements deliberate yet tense. Across from her, Lily leaned on the edge of the table, her eyes sharp and inquisitive. Despite Aurora's silence, Lily launched into her typical tirade of assumptions, her voice full of exaggerated drama.
"Did he call you ugly?" Lily asked, raising a brow.
"Or didn't share his food with you? Or, oh! Did he refuse to go on a date? Maybe he's ignoring your favorite outfit? Too busy with work to give you time? Or-"
Aurora cut her off with a resigned sigh, her voice low but firm.
"He's going out for lunch with another woman."
Lily froze mid-rant, her expression shifting from playful curiosity to genuine concern. "What?!"
"Wait-do you mean he's cheating on you?"
Aurora hesitated, her gaze faltering. "No... it's not like that, but..."
Her voice trailed off as she recounted the scene from earlier that morning-the quiet exchange between Edwin and the other woman, the unease that had gnawed at her since.
Lily listened intently, tapping her finger against her chin in thought.
"Look," she finally said, her tone more serious now, "I think you need to confront him. That woman asked him questions, and he didn't even reply, right? And he didn't admit she was his girlfriend, either. Maybe she's just a client or something."
Aurora frowned, her frustration evident.
"Yes, but when she insulted me-calling me just some ordinary waitress-he didn't even defend me. Shouldn't he have said something?"
"That's a good point," Lily admitted, nodding slowly.
"But maybe he didn't want to argue over something unnecessary. If she's a client, he might have wanted to avoid creating a scene."
Aurora's eyes narrowed as she leaned forward. "Whose side are you on, Lily?"
" Mine or his?"
"Yours, obviously!" Lily exclaimed, throwing up her hands.
"I'm just trying to analyze the situation. Look, whatever's going on in his head, you need to talk to him directly. That's the only way you'll know if he's telling the truth or hiding something."
Aurora sighed again, but the tension lingered as Lily left for work. She couldn't shake the nagging doubt that followed her all day.
By lunchtime, the frustration had boiled over. Sitting in the break room, Aurora grabbed her phone and quickly typed a message to Edwin.
"What are you doing?"
His reply came a few minutes later. "Working."
Her fingers flew across the screen. "Will you have lunch at the office too?"
"Yes."
She hesitated, then sent another text. "Oh, should I come to accompany you?"
His response was curt. "No, there's no need."
Aurora stared at the screen, her emotions swirling between anger, confusion, and a deep sense of unease.
"Why?!"
" You always say you want to be with me, stay close to me. So what's the issue now?"
Edwin stayed silent for a moment before responding.
"It's nothing like that. I'm just really busy with work, and I thought you'd get bored here. Plus, I wouldn't be able to give you any attention."
Aurora, "Hm." She ended the call, but her face was a mix of anger and pain.
