Wolf Battle History
"You look beautiful, baby."
Aurora was caught off guard, but it was undeniably Edwin standing in front of her. The café, usually bustling with people, was eerily quiet at this hour, giving her a small sense of relief. If anyone had been around, they would have immediately noticed the deep red flush spreading across her cheeks.
Edwin, as casual and confident as ever, sat down on the table. Leaning back in his chair, he looked at her with a playful glint in his eye.
"But I like the colour blue," he remarked, his voice teasing yet sincere.
Aurora blinked, a little confused. "Huh? Okay, and?" she replied, her brow furrowed.
Edwin, not missing a beat, leaned in slightly. "So from now on, wear blue for me," he said with a smirk, as if it were the most natural request in the world.
Aurora quickly composed herself, even though her heart was racing. She couldn't let him know he was getting to her.
"Yeah, and what makes you think I dressed up for you today?" she shot back. She knew he could see through her act, but she wasn't ready to admit it.
Edwin raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Oh..." he responded, knowingly dragging out the sound.
Not one to back down.
Aurora mimicked him with a mock-innocent expression. "What do you mean by 'ohhh'?"
Aurora crossed her arms and leaned forward slightly. "You say you can't live without me, but you haven't told me anything about yourself yet?!" she exclaimed.
She continued, her words spilling out faster now. "Do you know, when I told one of my friends about you, she bombarded me with questions! Where do you live? What do you do? Who do you work with? Do you have any other girls in your life?"
She paused, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"And do you know what?" she added, her tone a little sharper. "I didn't have an answer to any of these questions!"
"You're talking about that friend of yours, Lily, right?" Edwin asked. "The one you've been friends with ever since you came to Moobridge?"
"Yeah," Aurora replied, "but how do you know all this?"
Edwin dodged the question, "Never mind that. Since you asked, let me tell you about myself."
Aurora's interest now fully piqued.
"My family is well-established," he began, his voice calm yet distant, "but when I was a child, my parents were killed in a fight."
The word 'fight' sent a chill down Aurora's spine. She couldn't hide her shock. "A fight? What kind of fight?" she asked, her eyes widening.
Edwin's gaze darkened as he looked at her, his jaw tightening before he spoke. "Look, Aurora, in the werewolf world, it's common for one pack to attack another for territory. These fights or battles can be brutal, and during them, many werewolves lose their lives."
Aurora's heart raced as she absorbed his words. A memory flashed through her mind of a book that she'd read in that library.
' Was each and everything true? There really are real fights between werewolves where lives are lost. Wait a minute, so does that mean right now- '
Her breath hitched as she began to connect the dots. " Wait, does this mean... do such fights still happen today? "
"No," he said, shaking his head. "Compared to the old times, the fights or battles between werewolf packs have significantly reduced. They can't afford to fight openly in their wolf form anymore. With today's technology-phones with cameras, social media-it's too easy for someone to capture them on video. So, no, open fights or battles like the ones from the past don't happen anymore."
"And several packs have made agreements as well," Edwin continued, "to avoid harming themselves in the process of trying to expand their territories."
Aurora let out a sigh of relief. "Well, that's good then."
Aurora let out a sigh of relief, thankful that such violence between packs had reduced. For a moment, it seemed like the tension was easing, but then Edwin's voice grew more serious.
"But that doesn't mean fights don't happen at all," Edwin added, his gaze hardening. "Even today, there are secret battles between some packs, and there's concern that a similar attack might happen here in here, in Moobridge."
Aurora's heart skipped a beat. "What?!"
"Yes, Aurora," Edwin nodded gravely. "Our pack has learned that a neighbour pack is secretly preparing to launch a sudden attack on us."
Aurora's eyes widened in disbelief. "What?!"
"Hm," Edwin confirmed, his expression serious. "We're still working to find out how true this is, but our pack wants to be prepared just in case. That's why, lately, all the werewolves have been training in the woods/jungle."
Aurora's mind started to connect the dots. "And that's why I ran into you in the jungle... And all those people who said they've been hearing strange noises from the forest at night-that's because of this."
Edwin nodded, "Yes, and that's why there have been so many meetings within our pack lately. Balancing all of this with my duties, and then trying to find personal time, has become really difficult. That's why I haven't been able to spend enough time with you!"
Aurora, understanding, placed her hand over his, giving him comfort, "It's okay, now... I can understand."
"You may understand, Aurora," Edwin sighed, "but I don't want to accept it! I know I have responsibilities, but I waited 24 years for my mate, and now that I've finally found her," he gently touched her cheek, "I'm not able to spend enough time with her."
Aurora could see the desperation in his eyes, his longing for peaceful moments together.
Wanting to shift the mood, she said playfully, "Alright, alright, that's enough of that!"
In a cheerful tone, she continued, "Now, tell me something more about yourself! Like, what do you like or dislike? And be honest-before you met me, how many girlfriends did you have?"
Edwin chuckled and responded, "I already told you, besides you-my lovely mate-I've never thought about anyone else."
"Most werewolves wait for their mates," he explained.
Aurora, curious, asked, "And what happens if they don't find their mate?"
________
If some of you are thinking that Aurora had curiously inquired about Edwin from the whole town in the previous chapters, then how come she still doesn't know anything about him?
So let me clarify that even the townspeople don't know much about Edwin; they only know basic information. However, Aurora still hasn't learned anything personal about him unless he tells her himself.
