The Battle

The air was thick with tension as Alex, the Alpha, released a low, guttural growl that sent ripples through the pack. His piercing eyes scanned the rogue wolf, standing defiantly at the center of their circle. With a subtle nod, the pack moved in unison, their fluid movements practiced and deliberate, forming an unbreakable ring around their enemy. Aurora, standing on a small hill nearby, felt her breath hitch. She had never witnessed such raw power and unity before, and the sight was both mesmerizing and terrifying.

The Moonbridge pack responded instantly, their bodies colliding with the rogues and Ravenwood pack in a chaotic blur of fur, claws, and teeth. Edwin, his dark coat gleaming under the moonlight, was at the forefront, engaging the rogue with calculated ferocity. Each swipe of his claws and snap of his jaws was precise, his strength evident in every movement.

Aurora's heart raced as she watched from the edge of the clearing, her hands trembling as she clutched a small knife—a futile weapon against the chaos unfolding below. The sounds of the battle were overwhelming: snarls that echoed like thunder, the dull thud of bodies hitting the ground, and the sharp yelps of pain.

Her eyes locked onto Edwin.

Even in the midst of the fray, his movements were purposeful, his focus unwavering. Yet, the wolves were relentless, its attacks growing wilder and more desperate with every passing second.

Aurora felt an uncontrollable urge to move closer, to do something, anything to help.

"Stay back, Aurora!" Alpha Alex's voice rang out, seeing her. The Alpha’s towering figure blocked her path as she instinctively took a step forward.

"But Edwin—" Her voice quivered, the fear in her heart spilling into her words.

"He’ll be okay," Alpha Alex said, his tone softening just enough to reassure her.

"We need to hold our ground and make sure the wolves specificly rogues doesn’t escape."

Aurora hesitated, her gaze flickering back to the battle. Alex placed a firm hand on her shoulder, leaning closer.

"And if you go in there and get hurt, do you think Edwin would ever forgive himself? He’d blame himself for the rest of his life.

" Is that what you want?"

The weight of his words settled over her, and she bit her lip, struggling to hold back tears.

"Stay safe," Alex continued, his voice a mix of authority and concern.

"Pray for us, Aurora. That’s the best thing you can do right now. And don’t step onto the battleground. None of us want a human getting hurt during our fight."

Aurora nodded, her grip tightening on the knife as she took a cautious step back.

She could see the conviction in Alex’s eyes, the absolute certainty that his words were right. She watched as the pack worked together, their coordination and unity giving them an advantage.

Despite their best efforts, the Ravenwood pack broke through the circle. Somewhere, just moments before Aurora had arrived the battlefield, they had caught a fleeting glimpse of her. Now, their leader’s predatory gaze locked onto her, its eyes gleaming with hunger. Aurora’s heart skipped a beat as it lunged toward her, jaws snapping with deadly intent.

Just as the wolf lunged for Aurora, Edwin sprang into action, his powerful form intercepting the attack. He tackled the beast with such force that both of them tumbled to the ground, a chaotic blur of fur and snarling fury. The ground shook beneath their weight as growls and snapping jaws filled the air.

In his wolf form, Edwin turned his striking blue eyes toward Aurora, his gaze intense and commanding. There was no need for words—his eyes said it all: "Go! Get back! Run while you can!"

But she couldn't Aurora watched helplessly, her hands trembling as Edwin wrestled the rogue to the ground. Every snap of his jaws, every swipe of his claws, spoke of his resolve to protect her. But the rogue was relentless, its claws finding purchase in Edwin’s side. The sight of his blood sent a cold wave of terror washing over her.

As the rest of the pack joined the fray, their combined force overwhelmed the Ravenwood wolves and the rogues. Alpha Alex, swift and precise, flanked it, his fangs sinking into its hind leg. With a final, resounding snap, Edwin's jaws closed around its throat, and the rogue went limp. The tension in the air shattered as silence descended over the forest once more.

Aurora stumbled forward, her breath hitching as Edwin shifted back to his human form. His normally commanding presence was diminished; his body was battered and bloodied, his skin glistening with sweat. Yet his expression, though pained, was soft as he met her tear-filled gaze.

"Edwin," she choked, falling to her knees beside him. Her fingers hovered over his wounds, afraid to touch and cause him further pain. "You’re hurt—this is my fault."

He managed a weak smile, his voice low but steady. "I’m fine, Aurora. It’s over."

Her tears spilled freely, landing on his torn skin as she cupped his face. The warmth of his hand covering hers brought a faint comfort, but her heart ached at the sight of his injuries.

Edwin then said,  “From now on, you will never join any fight again,” he said, his piercing gaze filled with worry and frustration.

The memory of how close his mate had come to danger was still fresh in his mind—how the wolf had nearly reached her before he intervened.

As the tension eased, the rest of the pack began to emerge.

Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and even Becky approached the scene, their faces still marked by the intensity of battle but softened with relief. By now, everyone was dressed in the clothes they kept hidden in the woods for moments like these. Edwin, now in his shorts, stood amidst them, his chest still heaving from the fight.

The pack gathered as one, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and triumph. “We did it,” Alex said, his voice carrying a heavy note of relief. “Most of the Ravenwood pack werewolves are dead—especially their Alpha!”

Aurora moved closer, extending a hand to help Edwin to his feet. Her heart was a storm of emotions—relief at their victory, fear from the close call, and an overwhelming love for Edwin, who had risked everything to shield her. His touch, even now, brought her a strange sense of calm amidst the chaos.

Despite the lingering weariness, their spirits were buoyed by the knowledge that they had faced the threat together and won.

Aurora glanced at Edwin, her heart swelling with gratitude and admiration. Though the road ahead would undoubtedly bring more battles and challenges, she felt a profound sense of hope. With Edwin by her side and the pack rallying around her like a second family, she believed they could face anything.
