Shadows of the Past

Aurora’s face flushed crimson as she nervously laughed, "Uhh, you got all serious. I was just joking, I really didn't  mean it."

Edwin, with a deep, gravelly voice, responded, "Of course, I know you didn’t mean it." He leaned in closer, his lips almost grazing her ear, his breath warm against her skin.

"But if you did mean it, then right now," he whispered seductively, his voice low and teasing, "I would do XXX with you, and then we’d have a bunch of mini versions of you and me running around."

Aurora's pulse quickened.

She could feel every inch of his body pressed against hers, Edwin's chest lightly brushing against her breasts. The air between them was thick with anticipation, their heartbeats in sync, growing faster with every passing second. The heat from their bodies seemed to melt the space between them, their breathing growing heavier.

Edwin then added, "And I’d keep you just like this, always by my side."

Their faces inched closer, eyes half-closed, drawn into the moment, their lips barely apart. The world around them faded into nothingness as they prepared to close the gap, and were just about to kiss with their eyes closed when—

* Cough *
* Cough *

Once again, they were interrupted by fake coughs. They quickly turned their heads, still entangled, to find an elderly couple standing nearby, accompanied by a small child, likely their grandson.

The older man, leaning heavily on his cane, scowled at them."A park is not a place for romance. There are children and elderly people here, so you should behave properly."

Compared to Edwin, Aurora felt incredibly embarrassed by their conversation, realizing how exposed they had been in public.

She quickly stood up, brushing off her clothes, her heart racing. Edwin followed suit, standing beside her as the old lady spoke.

The elderly woman’s voice was gentle as she said, "Oh dear, why are you being so strict with this young couple?"

Turning towards Aurora and Edwin with a kind smile, she continued, "We’re just here enjoying ice cream with our grandchild. If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind finding somewhere else to go?"

Aurora, mortified, immediately apologized, her voice flustered as she hurriedly left the spot, with Edwin close behind her. For a while, they walked in silence. Edwin noticed her quiet demeanor, and after some time, he couldn’t hold back his curiosity.

"What’s wrong all of a sudden? Why aren’t you talking to me? You’re just walking away," he asked.

Aurora kept her eyes on the ground, her voice barely above a whisper, "Ugh, didn’t you see how we... Ahhh, from now on, we’re not meeting outside like that anymore!"

Knowing how shy she could be, Edwin smiled, amusement playing in his eyes. "Okay, that’s fine with me," he said, his tone calm and understanding.

He paused for a moment before asking with a mischievous grin, "So, where should we meet next time?"

Aurora, seriously considering her options, replied, "Probably at my house, or a café during lunch break, or maybe a restaurant, or—"

Before she could finish, Edwin cut in, his grin widening, "Or maybe a hotel, or in the bedroom."

Aurora gasped, blushing furiously, and playfully hit him on the arm. "Ah!" she exclaimed, pretending to scold him, though a smile tugged at her lips.

They continued walking side by side for a while, the tension easing as they fell into a comfortable conversation, sharing stories about themselves and their lives.

Edwin opened up, his deep voice softening as he spoke about his past.

He explained how, after losing his parents, his uncle and aunt had stepped in and supported him through the toughest times.

Despite the tragedy, Edwin was determined to succeed, and he had completed his studies abroad, living in hostels far from home. He spoke fondly of the close friends he made during that time, and how he had earned the title of a responsible and loyal wolf within his werewolf pack.

"My life hasn’t been anything special," he confessed, his gaze steady but distant. "I worked hard, studied, and then threw myself into the family business. That’s how I made my career."

There was a brief pause before he continued, his tone more serious.

"When it comes to relationships, I’ve always been like any true werewolf—waiting for my mate. I’ve had offers, sure, plenty of females have approached me, but I’ve always said no. I knew the Moon Goddess had someone perfect in mind for me, and I was willing to wait for her."

Aurora listened intently, her heart warming at his honesty.

When it was her turn to speak, her voice was quieter, more hesitant.

She told him how she had lived her entire life as an orphan, moving from one orphanage to another.

"But I was never adopted," she admitted, a hint of sadness in her tone. "No matter where I went, I stayed alone."

At 18, she had started working part-time jobs to support herself while continuing her education. But the strain was too much for her to handle.

"I couldn’t keep up," she said, her eyes cast downward as she remembered the struggle. "My grades were slipping, and the money wasn’t enough. So, I made a choice—I quit college and took up a full-time job." Her voice wavered slightly.

"I had to focus on one thing at a time, and education just wasn’t something I could afford anymore."

The air between them felt heavy with the weight of their stories. They walked in silence for a moment, the world around them seeming distant as they processed each other’s experiences.

But as they continued to talk, a new understanding grew between them. They spoke of their struggles, their sacrifices, and their hopes, learning more about each other with every step.
