Fear ?
As the kiss broke, Aurora’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears. She took a shaky breath, her voice barely a whisper.
“I want to be strong, Edwin. I want to be there for you, but... I’m so scared. What if I can’t handle this?”
Edwin reached for her hand, his gaze steady and calm.
“Aurora, you’re stronger than you realize. Just being here with me, facing this fear... that’s bravery. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to trust us. Trust what we have.”
She swallowed, feeling the weight of his words, but fear still lingered in her heart.
“I do trust you, Edwin. I want to believe we can get through this. But that fear, it’s always there, reminding me of the risks.”
Gently, he cupped her face, his thumb brushing away the tear that had escaped.
“Fear can be paralyzing, but it doesn’t have to control you. We have each other. We have the strength to face whatever comes our way. We’ll take it one day at a time, together.”
Aurora’s breath steadied as she absorbed his reassurance, letting it settle in her heart. “Then… what happens now?!"
" What do we do about these Ravenwood werewolves and what you say... those rogues? And why did they attack you in front of the cafe?”
Edwin’s jaw tightened, his expression growing serious.
“First of all, they came to the cafe just to attack me. The Moonbridge pack has discovered that this is the Ravenwood werewolves' strategy—they target the strongest wolves in a pack. By picking us off one by one, they’re trying to weaken us, isolate the Alpha.”
Aurora’s eyes widened, her concern deepening.
“So… they’re trying to make you guys vulnerable. They want to make your pack… alone.”
“Exactly!" He nodded grimly. " But now that you are also with me, both of us will have to face these things together. "
Aurora managed a small smile, "Together.”
“Don’t worry,” Edwin said softly, his voice a soothing balm to her anxiety.
“I’ve spoken to the pack. The Alpha himself gave me his word—some members will be keeping a close eye on the café and your home. And with the officers also watching the area, you’ll have added security.”
A flicker of relief crossed her face as she absorbed his reassurance.
“And we’re not stopping there,” he continued. “We’ll all be working to gather more information about that Ravenwood werewolves’ motives. We’re not letting this go.”
Aurora squeezed his hands, determination lighting up her eyes.
“Thank you, Edwin. For everything… you and your pack. But I don’t want to just sit around, hiding from this. I... also want to help. Tell me what I can do...? ”
A smile broke through the seriousness on Edwin’s face, his eyes shining with admiration.
“Your support means everything to me, Aurora. For now, stay safe and keep your routine normal. I’ll let you know if there’s anything specific you can do. Just having you with me… your courage and presence… it’s already a huge help. "
She took a deep breath, her heart steadying. “Alright. I’ll do my best. I’m here for you, Edwin, no matter what.”
He pulled her into a gentle embrace, holding her close. “Thank you, baby,” he murmured.
“Together, we’ll get through this.”
They stayed in each other’s arms, the world outside fading as they took comfort in their closeness, their fears momentarily replaced by a shared strength.
The days following the revelation were a whirlwind for Aurora. She had tried to maintain a semblance of normalcy at the café, but her thoughts were consumed by the recent events and her strong feelings for first ever boyfriend, Edwin. The once-cozy café now felt like a cage, trapping her in her own fears and uncertainties.
Aurora leaned against the counter, her mind racing. She glanced around the café, the comforting clinks of cups and murmurs of patrons feeling distant and muffled.
“Hey, Aurora, you’ve been awfully quiet today. Is everything okay?” Mrs. Jacklin, one of her regular customers, asked.
Aurora looked up, surprised by the question. She forced a small smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just… a lot on my mind.”
Mrs. Jacklin’s face softened, a knowing glint in her eyes.
“Dear, after what happened outside the café a few days ago, with the police and all, I can only imagine how scary that must have been for you… but remember, it’s all okay now.”
Aurora paused, her hands stilling on the coffee cup she was preparing. She hesitated for a moment, feeling the weight of her worries, then managed a nod. “Yes, you’re right. "
" Everything’s fine now. People are coming to the café as usual, and the officers are keeping a close watch over the town.”
Mrs. Jacklin’s face broke into a proud smile as she reached over, giving Aurora’s hand a gentle squeeze.
“That’s my brave girl!”
As the last few customers lingered over their coffee, a calm settled over the café. But Aurora’s thoughts were anything but calm. Her mind drifted to Edwin—the way he’d looked in his werewolf form, powerful and fierce, was burned into her memory. The images unsettled her, a shadow of fear pressing on her heart.
The thought of losing her first love, her soulmate—she couldn’t bear that pain!
' Can I really be with someone like him? He’s so strong, so and... me? Just thinking about it scares me. The blood, the fighting, those sharp wolf teeth… '
Just then, the soft chime of the café door startled her back to the present. She looked up, her breath catching as she saw Edwin standing there, his expression tense, his eyes focused on her with a mixture of worry and tenderness.
He approached, pausing only inches away, his gaze searching her face. “Can we talk?” he asked, his voice gentle but laced with urgency.
She nodded slowly, rising from her seat.
“Okay, but make it quick,” she murmured, glancing around the café to the few remaining customers. “Let’s go to the back room.”
Without a word, Edwin followed her to the quiet back room.
They slipped into the café’s small storage area, where the muffled sounds of the outside world faded into a quiet hum. The dim lighting cast soft shadows across the room, with shelves of supplies stacked high, creating a secluded nook that felt almost intimate.
Aurora leaned back against a shelf, crossing her arms as she tried to control her racing heartbeat.
Edward stood before her, his eyes scanning her face. He took a steadying breath, his expression gentle but intense.
“I can see you’re struggling,” he began, his voice low and filled with concern.
