Lingering Thoughts

The following morning, Aurora awoke with the image of the wolf still vivid in her mind. The encounter had left her both frightened and fascinated. As she got ready for her day, she couldn't shake the feeling that there was something she needed to discover.

At the café, she tried to focus on her work, but her thoughts kept drifting back to the the mysterious wolf and along side Edwin. The morning rush of customers provided a brief distraction, but even as she served coffee and chatted with the regulars, her mind kept wandering.

"Morning, Aurora!" called out Mrs. Jenkins as she walked in, her usual cheerful self.

"Morning, Mrs. Jenkins. The usual?" Aurora asked, already preparing her Earl Grey tea.

"You know it, dear," Mrs. Jenkins replied, settling into her favorite seat by the window.

As she handed her the tea, Mrs. Jenkins gave her a curious look. "You seem a bit distracted today. Everything alright?"

Aurora smiled, trying to shake off her thoughts. "Just didn't sleep well last night, that's all."

Mrs. Jenkins nodded sympathetically. "Well, if you need to talk, you know where to find me."

"Thank you, Mrs. Jenkins. I appreciate it," she said, genuinely touched by the elder woman's kindness.

Back at the counter, ' that wolf and... Edwin!

Last night, I talked so much to him without even realizing it! I mean, I ended up sharing so much about myself with him. I've only met him for one or two days; I don't know who he is, what he does, where he lives, or if he has a girlfriend or not!

Yet, like a fool, I blabbered on and on to him last night?

I wonder what he must be thinking about me?! '

Just then, the bell above the door jingled, and Lily walked in, her eyes immediately narrowing as she saw Aurora's distracted expression. "Hey, you look like you didn't get much sleep."

Aurora sighed, knowing she couldn't hide anything from her best friend. "It's nothing. Just... had a strange experience in the woods last night."

Lily's eyes widened. "You went back into the woods?! Why?! What happened?"

Aurora glanced around to make sure no one was listening before leaning in closer. "I saw a wolf. A huge one with blue eyes. It was like nothing I've ever seen before."

Lily looked both shocked and intrigued. "A wolf? Are you sure it wasn't just your imagination?!"

Aurora whispered."It felt real, Lily. And what's even stranger is that its eyes reminded me of Edwin,"

Lily's eyebrows shot up. "Edwin... that new guy? That's... odd."

"I know. And guess what? I even met him after that!" Aurora added.

"Who?" Lily asked. "Edwin?!!"

Aurora nodded her head.

"Wait a minute, wait a minute," Lily said. "What happened? Tell me everything from the beginning! Why did you go into the woods? What did you see, and how did Edwin come into all this?"

Aurora then tells her everything about what happened to her last night.

The first thing Lily says is, "Well, first of all, no matter what, you shouldn't have gone into the woods alone!"

"I know," Aurora replied, "but what can I do? I just feel drawn there!"

"Hmp!" Lily muttered, unconvinced. "'Drawn there,' really?"

Being a normal human, Lily couldn't believe that anyone could just wander off like that. She thought Aurora had simply gone into the woods out of curiosity.

Lily frowned. "I know you're the curious type, but the woods can be dangerous. You promised me you'd be careful."

"I..." Aurora started to say, but before she could continue, another customer came in, interrupting their conversation, and Lily had to leave for work.

As the day wore on, Aurora remained lost in her thoughts. When her shift ended, she thought she needed to focus on something else to distract her mind from all that had happened. So, she decided to visit the library, hoping to find some interesting books and shift her mind elsewhere.

The library was a quiet place, filled with the comforting smell of old books and polished wood.

She approached the librarian, Mr. Evans, who had been a fixture in Moonridge for as long as she had lived there.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Evans. Has any new super interesting book come in this week? Something that will keep my mind completely occupied?"

Mr. Evans looked up from his desk, adjusting his glasses. "Ah, if you want a book like that... follow me."

He led her to a section filled with books. "Here are some very old and interesting books. Pick one from here."

"Thank you, Mr. Evans," she said, selecting a few books.

She spent the next few hours poring over various books, but none of them managed to hold her attention for long.

Then, her hands landed on a thin, rather old-looking book.

The title immediately grabbed Aurora's full attention. It read, "Moonridge Werewolf History."

Curious, she immediately sat down and started reading it.
