Andy awoke to the jarring sound of gunfire echoing all around her. It was the exact scenario she had read about in the novel. She pinched herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming, but the sharp pain confirmed that this was all too real. Just moments ago, she had been in the comfort of her living room with Crystal, and now she found herself back within the novel once more.
"I'm back," she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible over the deafening gunfire. Her heart pounded in her chest, matching the rhythm of the chaos around her. She could feel the tremors of fear coursing through her body, but she fought to steady her breathing. As she crouched behind the makeshift cover, the acrid stench of gun smoke filled her nostrils, adding to the sensory overload.
Every nerve in her body seemed to be on high alert as she sought refuge in the touch of her own hand, the only anchor in the midst of the mayhem. The sounds of bullets whizzing past and the distant shouts of the combatants reverberated through the air, a constant reminder of the danger that surrounded her.
Despite the overwhelming fear threatening to paralyze her, she knew she couldn't afford to succumb to it. Her mission to find and save Kayden was the driving force that propelled her forward. With a deep breath, she summoned her courage and rose from her hiding spot, determined to navigate through the chaos and locate Kayden amidst the relentless gunfire.
Carl stood at the edge of the chaotic scene, his eyes scanning the turmoil that surrounded him. Amidst the chaos, he caught sight of a woman in pajamas carefully navigating her way through the mayhem. Turning to his team, he urgently exclaimed, "Guys, we've got an uninvited guest. There's a civilian strolling through the midst of this chaos. She's moving cautiously, using the walls as cover."
As he observed the woman's precarious journey, Carl couldn't help but wonder, "Is this woman out of her mind? This is a dangerous area! Who in their right mind would venture here in their pajamas?"
"I'll go get her. Cover me!" declared Tristan, determination etched on his face as he prepared to spring into action. Charlie swiftly nodded, ready to provide covering fire to protect Tristan as he made his way towards the woman in pajamas.
Andy felt a sense of unease as she detected a looming presence drawing near. Without a moment's hesitation, she bolted away with every ounce of strength, her bare feet thudding against the unforgiving ground. Her resolve was unwavering as she was resolute in her determination not to be captured, understanding full well that she had to locate Kayden before anyone else.
"What on earth is this woman thinking?" Tristan pondered, deeply concerned. This was an incredibly perilous location, and the last thing he wanted was for any innocent bystanders to be harmed, aside from their adversaries. He felt compelled to intervene and protect this seemingly reckless woman.
If Andy's memory serves her well, she believes that Kayden is currently confined in a room with the boss of this establishment, a person named Rosales. Andy suspects that Rosales intends to harm Kayden using underhanded tactics. She is absolutely opposed to this plan! The thought of Kayden meeting a tragic end is unbearable to her. Such an event would devastate her world, and she feels an urgent need to intervene before it's too late.As she frantically searched through the dimly lit corridors, her footsteps echoed against the cold, hard floors. Each door she came across seemed to mock her with its silence, hiding the truth of Kayden's whereabouts. With trembling hands, she pushed open each door, hoping to find him standing there, safe and unharmed. "Please, be okay," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of her heart. Fear and worry gripped her as she continued her desperate search.
"Where is it? Where is that room?!" The urgency of the situation drove her forward, despite the throbbing pain in her feet. She winced with each step, the shards of glass from shattered windows causing her to leave a trail of blood behind. Her determination to find Kayden overshadowed the physical discomfort, propelling her onward in her relentless quest.
As she started to lose consciousness, she heard a voice speaking. It must be Rosales, she thought, by the way it spoke. In the novel, Rosales is depicted as a half-Mexican who grew up in Mexico before moving to the US to become the heir of the mafia organization that Kayden and his team were currently raiding.
"Let's have a duel then, it's something that we Mexicans do if we want to have something." Rosales said and added,""The rules is simple, we are on the opposite side of this room and when one of my subordinate done counting three we will face each other and shoot at the same time. You! Count until three!"
"I remember this clearly," she thought to herself, feeling the panic rising within her. She was certain that the gun Kayden was holding was defective. In just a few seconds, Rosales would pull the trigger, and Kayden would be shot mercilessly. "No, no, no!" she whispered under her breath, desperately hoping to find a way to prevent the impending tragedy.
She desperately needed to open the door, but she was drained of all her strength."One!"
"Two!""Please, open!" She exerted every last bit of her remaining power to push the door open. As it swung ajar, she was greeted by the sight of Kayden, standing with his back turned, poised to shoot as soon as he counted to three.
And "three!"
As the count reached three, the tension in the air was palpable. Rosales and Kayden stood facing each other, their fingers poised on the triggers of their weapons. Suddenly, a girl in pajamas, her feet leaving bloody footprints, sprinted towards Kayden, positioning herself in front of him just as the shot rang out.
"What the!" Shouted Rosales.
Tristan sprinted over to the scene and was horrified to witness the moment when the girl was shot. Kayden managed to catch her just before she collapsed. In a split-second decision, Tristan swiftly aimed and fired at Rosales, preventing another potential bullet discharge that could harm Kayden and quickly turning attention to the other guards at the scene.
Kayden sat there, his whole body tense with shock, cradling the injured girl in his trembling hands. The metallic scent of blood filled the air, and he could hear the frantic beating of his own heart as he struggled to comprehend the situation before him.
"I'm b-back!" The girl stammered with a warm smile on her face, gently caressing Kayden's face with her hands.
