Jane approached Andy with a look of genuine concern etched on her face. "How are you?" she asked, her voice filled with warmth as she settled down beside Andy. Although Jane's expression remained calm, her eyes betrayed her worry.
"I am fine now. Thanks to you," Andy replied, her voice brimming with gratitude. She offered a sincere smile to Jane and reached out to hold her hand. "Thank you," she added softly, aware that Jane might be upset with her for returning instead of embracing the new life Jane had helped her build. A flicker of sadness crossed her face as she considered the potential disappointment she had caused.
"I know you're mad at me, and you have every right to be. But, I'm happy here. I am thankful for you above all for making things happen. If it's not because of you, I would never have experienced everything that I have here." She smiled as she looked up at the ceiling, her voice filled with emotion.
"I'm not mad," Jane answered softly as she gently rubbed Andy's hands, which were clasped in hers. "I just want to understand why you've come back."
"I read something that made me feel like I had to return," Andy replied, her voice tinged with sadness as she recalled the novel she had read. Taking her hands, she placed them over her heart. "I witnessed Kayden's death in the story."
"What?" Jane asked, her disbelief evident on her face.
"Yes," she answered. "After I read that, my world seemed to crumble. I felt like I had to save him. I couldn't bear the thought of him dying. He had become my entire world, and without him, I felt like I was nothing." The sadness on her face was palpable, and it's painful to even think about those moments from the story.
"So you came back to save him?" asked Jane, to which Andy nodded.
"I had to," she replied. "I did everything I could to come back here, and Crystal helped me with that. She was there for me when I needed someone to share my grief." Andy recounted every detail that had occurred after she came back and explained the reason why she was currently lying in the hospital bed.
"You're quite something, I'll give you that," Jane said with a chuckle. She couldn't believe how naive Andy was being. She had walked away from a life that many could only dream of, all because of a fleeting connection with someone. But then again, she couldn't entirely blame Andy. In some ways, they were not so different. And maybe, just maybe, she had been selfish in wanting to change someone's life without fully considering their feelings.
Andy let out a laugh, despite the lingering ache of her wounds. The joy she felt far outweighed any physical discomfort.
"How is your business doing over there? And what about Crystal? I brought her on board because I saw potential in her," Jane inquired. She was eager to hear about the world Andy had left behind, which became hers too.
"Crystal is doing exceptionally well. I have complete trust in her. She's become one of the most important people there for me, so I've left everything in her hands. I've even handed her the reins of the company," Andy replied. The two of them continued to talk for hours, catching up on everything that had transpired since they had swapped bodies.
As Kayden and Carl stepped into the room, they were met with the sight of two individuals engaged in lively conversation. It was clear to Carl why Kayden had assured him that there was nothing to worry about, and that Jane was well-acquainted with the girl named Andy.
"Uhm, hey," Carl greeted, nervously scratching the back of his neck.
"Mr. Carl," Andy responded, her smile causing a twinge of jealousy in Kayden. He knew he had no reason to feel this way, but Andy was someone he didn't want to share or see smiling with anyone other than himself.
"You know me? I mean, yeah. I'm Carl, and Kayden filled me in on everything. So, you're the Jane I met?" Carl inquired, his gaze shifting between Andy and Jane.
"I understand if it's hard to believe, but yes, Mr. Carl," Andy replied, her expression apologetic as she glanced at Carl before turning to look at Kayden. She noticed what seemed like dark auras swirling around him, or perhaps it was just her imagination.
"How adorable," she giggles softly at the thought.
"Ehem," Kayden cleared his throat. "Why don't you go ahead back, Carl? Tell Keith I'll leave the new territory to him," he suggested, hoping for a moment alone with Andy again.
"Okay," Carl replied, catching Kayden's meaning and then looking at Jane. "Um, Ms. Jane, why don't we head back now? I'll send you home," he said, biting his tongue as he realized he had misspoken.
As Jane prepared to leave, she looked at Andy with concern and gently kissed her on the cheek. "Get well soon, okay? Let's plan to meet again once you're discharged," she said, smiling warmly. Andy nodded in response, returning the smile. After waving goodbye to Kayden and Andy, Jane was escorted out by Carl.
Once Jane and Carl had left, Kayden quietly approached Andy's bedside and planted a soft kiss on her cheek, causing Andy to be surprise. "Hey," she exclaimed, clearly caught off guard.
"What? I missed it," Kayden replied with a shrug, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Andy pouted slightly. "You don't even know me," she said.
Kayden shook his head. "Who said I don't know you? Even if your appearance changes, I'll still recognize you. It's my heart that decides, not my eyes," he declared, then leaned in to plant another gentle kiss on Andy's forehead.
Andy's face lit up with a smile as she reached out to hold Kayden's hand. "Thank you," she said softly, leaning in closer to Kayden. As Kayden closed his eyes, expecting a kiss, Andy simply gazed at him, amused by his anticipation. After a few moments, Kayden opened his eyes to find Andy chuckling at his reaction.
"You're a tease, aren't you?" he teased, a smirk playing on his lips before he leaned in to kiss Andy on her lips.
"I missed you too," said Andy, her voice filled with longing. She smiled as she leaned in, and their lips met again in a tender, passionate kiss. Time seemed to stand still as they savored the moment, wrapped up in each other's embrace.
