004. LED US INTO A GRAVEYARD

Chapter four

"Led us into a graveyard."

The next morning, Katniss had been handed her arrows by Daryl and then was told along with Carl and Sophia and Morales's children to go down by the water till someone came to get them to let them know that the carnage that had befallen their came last night was cleaned up, where as Katniss washed her arrows off in the water, Carl and Sophia sat behind watching her, where other then splashing and the occasional breeze causing the nearby tree's to rustle, the three sat their in pure silence.

Where even as kids, they all knew what had happened that everyone had died and that they wouldn't be coming back but seeing as they were still kids none of them wanted to talk about it, yet the question that was on all of their minds was if they were safe now, and maybe neither of them asked each other because all of them knew that the answer was no yet none of them wanted to admit it, as Katniss was done washing off her arrows, she turned and walked over to where Carl and Sophia were sitting and sat down, looking out into the water.

Soon they came to get them, as they walked past the camp and headed up the hill to where Jim had been digging, where they past the truck full of dead bodies wrapped in sheets as Daryl, Rick and Shane were "the chinaman get's all emotional, say's it's not the thing to do, we just follow him along? These people need to know who the hell's in charge here, what the rules are." Daryl shared "there are no rules." Rick told him "well, that's a problem. We haven't had one minute to hold onto anything of our old selves. We need time to mourn and we need to bury our dead. It's what people do." Lori shared.

And when she did, they all were standing back and watching as the bodies were put into the graves, there was only one left, as Andrea held onto Amy's head, Dale was down by her feet trying to help her "I can do it. I can do it." Andrea told him as she fell into the grave with the body, Dale went to help put the feet in "I can do it! I can do it." Andrea told him, as Dale leaned down to the feet, Andrea pulled Amy's body in, she laid her down, as Dale held his hand out to her, Andrea looked up and took it, letting him help her out.

They all were then walking back down, as Daryl looked down at Katniss "Merle's gone. He took that cube truck so obviously he ain't dead. But I don't expect him to be coming back anytime soon. So it's just us now." he shared, putting his hand on the top of her head "if you hadn't shown up when you did..." Katniss told him "I know. I know." Daryl told her, as the two walked over sitting around the fire pit with everyone else.

Where they all were sitting in silence, until Shane, Rick and Dale walked up from doing their sweep "I've, uh..I've been thinking about Rick's plan. Now look they're ae no, uh..there are no gurantees either way, I'll be the first one to admit that. I've known this man a long time. I trust his instincts. I say the most important thing here is we need to stay together. So those of you that agree, we leave first thing in the morning. Okay?" Shane asked, looking at them all.

The next morning, they all had grabbed what they wanted to take, as Daryl put Merle's motorcycle in the back of the truck, Katniss threw her bag in the passenger seat as she then walked around it and went and stood next to Daryl where everyone else was talking and waiting for Shane and Rick to start "alright, everybody listen up. Those of you with CB's we're gonna be on channel forty. Let's keep the chatter down, okay? Now you got a problem, don't have a CB, can't get a signal or anything at all, you're gonna hit your horn one time. That'll stop the caravan. Any questions?" Shane asked.

"We're, uh..we're not going." Morales told them, as they all stared at them "we have family in Birmingham. We wanna be with our people." Morales's wife shared "you go on your own, you won't have anyone to watch your back." Shane shared "we'll take the chance. I've gotta do what's best for my family." Morales shared "you sure?" Rick asked "we talked about it. We're sure." Morales told them "all right, Shane?" Rick asked, as he crouched down to the gun bag "yeah." Shane told him, as Daryl watched Rick grab a gun and Shane grab ammo walking up to the two of them and handing it over.
