044. WE KEEP EACH OTHER ALIVE

Chapter forty four

"We keep each other alive." 

Coming out of a state like that was very confusing for Katniss, where the first time she opened her eyes, she saw that they were in a car and that they were moving and when she looked down at herself, she noticed she had none of her clothes and was wearing a hospital gown and that there was a bandage on her arm, which was when things went black for her again, where when she woke up the second time, she now had clothes on "Katniss?" Carl asked, and when he did, Katniss looked up seeing him looking down at her, her head was lying in his lap, as the two looked into each other's eyes "are you real?" Katniss asked, her voice coming out scratchy "I'm real." Carl told her, his voice a whisper or maybe it was cause the darkness was pulling Katniss back in as her eyes closed once more.

Where the thing about Dawn saying she won't feel any pain? Katniss remembered it. Having woken up that moment they cut into her arm, she had sat up screaming in fear, looking around her lost and confused, amongst a bunch of strangers and in a hospital room, only to have a mask shoved on her face and knocked back out, which that mixed with what happened with Gareth and the claimers all played over and over in her mind.

As she woke up screaming, sitting up in the back of the car, she looked around her, she was all alone, as she started breathing heavy, Carl came running up to the car, looking at her through the open door "hey." he told her "I'm sorry. It's just a nightmare." Katniss shared "it's okay. we.." Carl told her, going to stay we understand seeing as what she's been through but he knew that's what everyone else would say "I get them too." he told her, as he turned walking off "Carl." Katniss told him, as Carl walked back "yeah?" he asked "will you stay with me?" Katniss asked him, as Carl climbed into the car, he sat down beside her and put his arms around her "always." he told her, as Katniss leaned into him, holding onto him.

Where later that day, they all had gone and met Rick, Michonne, Glenn and Noah to bury Tyreese, as Katniss and Carl stood there holding hands, Carl held Judith in his other arm "we look not at what can be seen but we look at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary..but what cannot be seen is eternal." Gabriel read off, as they all were taking turns putting down dirt, after Glenn, Carl and Katniss walked up and as Katniss grabbed the shovel, she put the dirt down first and then handed it to Carl and as she did, Carl handed her Judith, as he put the dirt down, the two of them walked off with the others who were already done.

And from there, they were back on the road going toward's washington, where they parked on the road to look for food but there was no animal in sight, as Katniss and Carl leaned against the van, everyone else sat around them, as Daryl, Sasha and Maggie came walking down the road towards them with nothing either.

They all had then piled back into the van, and they drove as far and as long as they could until they ran out of not only gas but of fumes "we're out. Just like the other one." Abraham shared "so we walk." Rick told them, as they all got out of the van and began walking, Katniss and Carl were walking side by side, as Rick was up front carrying Judith, Carl looked behind them and at Maggie, as he looked back at Katniss "I'll be right back." he told her, as Katniss nodded, Carl turned walking off, Katniss continued walking as they pace they were going at began to slow down.

"I'm gonna head out. See what I can find." Daryl shared, giving Rick his gun back "hey, don't be too long." Rick told him "I'll go with you." Carol told him, as Daryl headed off to the right "I got it." he said, heading into the woods "you gonna stop me?" Carol asked, following after him, as the rest of them kept walking, Carl came up to Katniss and as he did, the two made it to Rick and as they did, Carl held his hands out, as Rick handed him Judith, the three continued walking, as the others walked closer to them, walkers could be heard snarling behind them, but they paid them no mind, seeing as Rick told them they weren't at full strength and were gonna wait till they got to higher ground to take care of them.
