Synopsis
When your a kid things are supposed to be scary but for Katniss Dixon she was brought up to not be afraid of anything, seeing as her grandpa hated their family and her uncle was always either in a drug haze or getting arrested and put into prison, it was her and her dad against the world.
Where he always told her that he would be with her, that he'd be there to protect her but that didn't mean he wasn't gonna teach her how to protect herself, where instead of going to school, she learned how to hunt and how to survive in the woods.
And all of that came in handy cause when she was twelve the world seemed to come to an end, where the dead were coming back and feeding on the living, leaving her, her dad and Merle on their own to survive.
At least they were until the stumbled upon a group in the woods, where Merle only wanted to join them knowing it would be easy to take all they're stuff, and even if they though that they still let them in, where Katniss would go out with her dad and hunt for food and sometimes Merle would come with them or sometimes Katniss would stay back while they went out.
And in her time of being left their alone, everyone in the group seemed to choose those times to talk to her, and all of their kindness was an odd thing for her but the more time she spent with them she started to get used to it and even learn things they were teaching her.
Yet even as a young girl, Katniss was always on her guard, keeping her knife and bow close, never letting anyone see her weak, never letting anybody get to too close, cause that's what kept her safe.
But when the walkers come and start feeding on people and all you can hear is their screams, all that bravery and the idea that your safe just goes away and your just a scared little girl.
And the thing was everyone around her saw the version of her that they wanted to see.
But Carl? Even from a young age he always saw both, the brave girl who would fight to protect herself and anyone around her and the scared girl who's hand he would grab and reassure that it was okay, he wanted to protect her and keep her safe anyway he could.
Cause he loved her and Katniss loved him too, both in their own way but they both knew from a young age that they never wanted to see the other hurt or in danger, they wanted each other to be safe.
Yet in the world they were growing up in that was never guaranteed and they were reminded of it every step of the way.
Which only made them wanna stay with each other and protect each other, always.
