025. FORTIFY THE PRISON

Chapter twenty five

"Fortify the prison."

A meeting had been set, Rick, Daryl and Hershel were to head out and meet with the governor thanks to Andrea, which left, Katniss, Carl, Glenn, Maggie, Michonne, Beth, Carol and Merle alone at the prison to make sure everything was ready for whichever way things worked out, which meant making sure every gun was loaded with ammo and that ammo was stashed anywhere "Carl, come here." Glenn told him, as Carl walked up to him "you stash these at the loading dock. All right?" he asked him, as he handed him boxes of ammo.

"Beth, put more up on the catwalk." Glenn told her, handing her a box "if anyone's pinned down, we need to make sure that they have plenty of ammo." Glenn shared, as he grabbed the power tools and a gun "I'll go work on the cage outside." he told them, walking off "what we should be doing is loading some of this fire power into a truck and paying a visit to the governor. We know where he is right now." Merle shared, as Beth walked off "you're suggesting we just go in and kill him?" Glenn asked.

"Yeah, I am." Merle told him "we told Rick and Daryl that we'd stay put." Michonne told him "I've changed my mind, sweetheart. Being on the sideline with my brother out there ain't sitting right with me." Merle shared, walking toward's Katniss "three of them are right in the middle of it. No idea we're coming. They could get taken hostage or killed. A thousand things could go wrong." Glenn shared, walking off, so did Carl "and they will." Merle told them, as Carl stopped and looked at him "my dad can take care of himself." he told him, as he turned walking off.

"Sorry, son, but your dad's head could be on a pike real soon." Merle told him, and as he did, Katniss quickly pulled the knife out of her pocket and stabbed it between his fingers, making everyone else jump, Merle smirked "I think your losing your touch." he told her, turning to Katniss "cause you missed." he told her "I don't miss." Katniss told him, pulling her knife off the table, she grabbed the gun off the table and extra ammo as she began walking off, Carl followed after her.

The two had headed out to the loading dock, as they were putting the extra ammo out there, what her uncle just said was playing over and over in her head "why'd you do that?" Carl asked her, as Katniss looked to him "do what?" she asked "attack your uncle. You didn't have to." Carl told her "I did because what he said isn't true. He..he still thinks your dad is that guy who locked him up on a rooftop. He has no idea what he's done. What he's capable of. Your dad made it back that night with the guns to save us all. Your dad talked with Jenner to give us a chance to survive." Katniss shared, stepping toward's him.

"Your dad is the reason I wasn't lost in the woods, twice. Your dad is the reason that either me or him weren't shot on that farm thanks to Shane." she told him, her voice breaking when she did, because even thinking about that night still scared her "and that night when we escaped from the governor it wasn't easy! There were walkers and people running everywhere, I had no clue where I was going, had no weapons and any walker or person that tried to get near me was shot down and it was your dad who did that. So I didn't just do it for you, I did it for me to. Because if he didn't come back, I don't know what I would do." she told him, turning around and walking off.

Where when Katniss had walked back in, she found Merle and Glenn on the ground by the stairs, where Maggie was on Merle's back as he was trying to stab Glenn, Michonne then grabbed Merle's arm, as Katniss pulled her gun out of her holster and shot it just above Merle's head "what the fuck!" he voiced, flying back, everyone looked to her "you put your hands on any of us one more time, the bullet goes in your head!" Katniss voiced, glaring at him, she walked down the stairs, heading past them all and into the cell block.

And because of that, Katniss chose not to take her eyes and ears off Merle at least not until Rick and the others got back, as she was hiding in her cell block, she watched him stand in the doorway as Michonne came walking in with a gun bag "you know I'm right. The folks here, they're strong, good fighters." Merle said, as Michonne put her stuff down "they ain't killers." Merle told her "Rick is. Katniss is. Maggie is. Carl put down his own mother." she told him "mercy killing. Don't make him an assassin." Merle told her.

"Mm, but you are." Michonne told him, as Merle chuckled "when I have to be." he told her "then how do you explain letting me get away?" Michonne asked "must've been seduced by your sterling personality. You coming with me or not? Me and my brother, we have a few calls we use when we hunt. I'll give him a heads up. He'll warn the others. You shogun the governors ass, I'll take care of the rest. We'll be home before you know it." Merle shared "and what about Andrea?" Michonne asked "bullets fly, she's gonna have to make her choice real quick." Merle told her 'you're on your own. You get people killed, it's on you." Michonne told him, grabbing her stuff, she turned around walking off and as she did, she looked at Katniss when she walked past.

Where some time had passed, as Katniss was standing in the cell block with Beth and Michonne, the three were staring at Merle who leaned against the wall across the way, as Maggie, Glenn, Carl, Carol came walking in, along with Daryl, Hershel and lastly Rick, as they all looked to him, as he walked over to his cell and grabbed his gun, he then walked up to them all "so, I met this governor. Sat with him for quite a while." he shared "just the two of you?" Merle asked "yeah." Rick said, as Merle turned and walked off "should have gone when we had the chance, bro." he told Glenn.

As Katniss lunged at him, Michonne held her back, as Merle walked off "he wants the prison. He wants us gone. Dead. He wants us dead for what we did to woodbury. We're going to war." Rick told them all, as he began walking out of there, and as he did, an uproar broke out "we should hit them first then. They already know we're coming." Merle shared "let's get there before they get to us." Michonne said, as Katniss looked to Merle "then how about you go! You've been wanting to all day!" she voiced.

"Like I've been saying, we should get out of here before they come, go back on the road." Hershel shared "we've done it before." Carol said, agreeing with him, Merle stepped towards Katniss "you used to be one of us, you know? These people got your mind all twisted.." he said, spinning his finger around, Katniss stepped toward's him "that's because you don't know anything about me Merle! You were never in my life! And anytime you were, all you've ever been is one big problem! Couldn't you have just stayed dead!" she voiced.

And as she did, Merle then smacked her in the face "you son of a bitch!" Daryl yelled, lunging toward's him so did Glenn, Maggie and Michonne, as Carol pulled Katniss toward's her "look at me. Look at me!" she voiced, but Katniss had her hands over her face as she started crying "get out! Get out now!" Glenn voiced, as Katniss then brought her hands down, she shoved Carol off of her, as she turned running out of there.
