Chapter eight
"Walker in the well."
The next day, Katniss was out with Shane, Glenn, T Dog, Maggie, Beth and Jimmy all collecting rocks for Otis's funeral seeing as he ended up not making it back last night, where the sound of Daryl's motorcycle could be heard approaching as they all stopped what they were doing and looked seeing him riding up along with the van and the RV, where they all began heading back to the house to meet up with them.
Meanwhile inside, Hershel was checking on Carl "fevers gone down." he told them, as Carl began to wake up "baby?" Lori asked as her and Rick moved toward's him "Carl?" Rick asked him "Katniss? Is she okay?" Carl asked, cause the last thing he heard before getting shot was her screaming "fine. She's fine." Rick told him "rest. We'll be right here, okay?" Lori asked him "okay." Carl told them, closing his eyes again, as the door to the room opened, T Dog walked in "they're here." he told them.
Katniss was standing outside with the others, where as Daryl got off his bike, she ran up and hugged him as Daryl hugged her back, he watched as Rick and Lori walked out "how is he?" Dale asked "he'll pull through, thanks to Hershel and his people." Lori shared "and Shane. We'd have lost Carl if not for him." Rick shared, as Dale walked forward hugging him, Carol walked forward and hugged Lori, Daryl looked down at her "you okay?" he asked, as Katniss nodded "how'd it happen?" Dale asked "hunting accident. That's all..just a stupid accident." Rick shared.
Where soon they all had walked over to where they were gonna pile the rocks in honor of Otis, as Katniss stood next to Daryl, Hershel was standing there in a full on suit looking at a bible as Beth put another rock down "blessed be god, the father of our lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to him for the gift of our brother Otis," Hershel shared, as Jimmy walked up and put a rock down "for his span of years, for his abundance of character, Otis who gave his life to save a child's, now more then ever are most precious asset. We thank you, god, for the peace he enjoys in your embrace. He died as he lived, in grace." Hershel shared, as he looked to Shane "Shane, will you for Otis?" he asked.
"I'm not good at it. I'm sorry." Shane told them "you were the last one with him. You shared his final moments. Please. I need to hear. I need to know his death had meaning." Patricia shared, crying "okay. We were about done. Almost out of ammo. We were down to pistols by then. I was limping. It was bad. Ankle all swollen up. We've got to save the boy. See, that's what he said. He gave me his backpack. He shoved me ahead. Run, he said. He said, I'll take the rear. I'll cover you. And when I looked back.." Shane shared, as he began limping toward's the wheel barrow "if not for Otis," he said, picking up one of the rocks "I'd have never made it out alive. And that goes for Carl too. It was Otis. He saved us both. If any death ever had meaning, it was his." he shared, limping over to the piles of rocks and putting it on, Daryl looked at him with raised brows.
Where when the funeral was over, they moved the RV and the other two cars close to that same spot and began getting out all their gear to start setting up camp, which was mostly, Katniss, Lori, Carol, Glenn, Dale and T Dog while Rick, Daryl, Shane and Andrea were all talking with Hershel and Maggie about finding Sophia.
Katniss was putting the fire pit together as Daryl walked up to her "look, I'm gonna head back to the creek work my way from there. You gonna be alright here while I'm gone?" he asked, as Katniss looked to him "you taught me to protect myself for that reason." she told him "I know. I just worry about you." Daryl shared "then maybe you should stop leaving." Katniss shared, raising her brows, as Daryl scoffed, playfully shoving her, he turned walking off.
But soon T Dog had come to get them all saying there was something had to see, as Shane, Katniss, Lori, Andrea and Maggie all walked with him over to one of the wells where Dale was standing shining a flashlight into it, they all stood around it and when they looked down there was a big fat walker inside "ah, looks like we got us a swimmer." Dale shared "how long you think it's been down there?" Glenn asked "long enough to grow gills." Andrea shared "we can't leave it in there. God knows what it's doing to the water." Lori shared "we gotta get it out." Shane told them.
