It had only been a week since Lena broke things off with Que, but it felt like a lifetime. The guilt weighed on her heavy every day. She couldn't shake the image of his face, cold and distant, when she walked out. It was the hardest thing she ever had to do, but she knew it was for the best—or at least, that's what she kept tellin' herself. The day had started like any other. Lena was packin' up for school, throwin' clothes and supplies into her suitcase. Her parents were already on her about gettin' ready for college. They were excited, proud of her, and she didn't wanna let them down. But lately, somethin' had been off.
She hadn't been feelin' herself—nauseous, tired all the time, like her body was tryna tell her somethin'. She thought maybe it was just stress, y'know, with everything goin' on. But after the fourth day of wakin' up feelin' sick, she started wonderin'. Something wasn't right.
"Maybe it's just all this pressure," she muttered, starin' at herself in the bathroom mirror. She looked tired, bags under her eyes from all the nights she couldn't sleep, thinkin' 'bout Que. Still, somethin' nagged at her.
Then it hit her. She was late—real late. Lena's heart skipped a beat, and her mind raced. She tried to count the days, tried to think back to the last time her period came. She grabbed her phone, googlin' symptoms, feelin' her chest tighten with every page she scrolled through.
"No way..."
Her hands were shakin' as she grabbed her keys and rushed out the door. She wasn't about to freak herself out over nothin', but she needed to know for sure. Lena headed to the drugstore, feelin' like the walls were closin' in on her as she walked down the aisle. She grabbed a pregnancy test, her heart racin' the whole time. It felt like everyone was watchin' her, judgin' her. She quickly checked out, keepin' her head down as she made her way back home.
Once she got back, she couldn't move fast enough. The test in her hand felt like it weighed a ton as she locked herself in the bathroom. Her hands were shakin' as she opened it up and followed the instructions, then sat down on the edge of the tub to wait.
Two minutes felt like two hours.
Lena glanced down at the test, her heart stoppin' when she saw the two little lines. Pregnant.
She stared at it for what felt like forever, her mind racin'. "No... no, this can't be real," she whispered, tears blurrin' her vision. But the test didn't lie. She was pregnant. Que's baby.
She wiped her eyes, tryin' to think. She had to tell him, right? They had broken up, but he needed to know. No matter what, he had to know. She grabbed her phone, her fingers shakin' as she scrolled to his name. Her thumb hovered over the call button before she pressed it. It rang... and rang... and then went to voicemail.
"Que, it's me. We need to talk. It's important. Call me back, please."
She waited for hours, checkin' her phone every few minutes. Nothin'. No response. The next day, she texted him again.
We need to talk. I really need you to answer. It's serious.
Days passed, and still, Que didn't reply. Lena was feelin' more alone than ever. The guilt of breakin' his heart was one thing, but now this? She was carryin' his baby, and he was actin' like she didn't exist.
A Month Later
Lena was packin' up the last of her things when her phone buzzed. Her heart jumped, hopin' it was Que, but it was just her mom checkin' in.
How's everything goin', baby girl? U packed yet?
Lena sighed, starin' at her empty suitcase. She had most of her stuff packed, but her mind wasn't in it. She felt lost, like she was goin' through the motions. She was 'bout to start a whole new life at college, but she couldn't even get excited about it. Not with the baby on her mind.
