As the days ticked by, Lena found herself sinkin' deeper into preparations for the baby's arrival. Between her psychology classes and last-minute nursery touches, she kept herself busy, though there was always a quiet tension simmerin' beneath the surface. The reality of motherhood was settlin' in, and with each passing day, the excitement grew, but so did the worry.

Que had been checkin' in more often, makin' sure everything was set up and that Lena had everything she needed. He'd even mentioned plannin' a little getaway once the baby was older, a trip he hoped would help them bond as a family and give Lena a break. Despite his efforts, Lena sometimes sensed somethin' else behind his smile, like he was holdin' back.

A Visit to the Doctor

With her due date fast approachin', Lena and her mom headed to another doctor's appointment. The doctor checked her progress, and after a routine ultrasound, reassured her that everything looked good. The baby was healthy, in position, and ready to arrive any day now. Lena's mom held her hand, givin' her an encouragin' squeeze.

On the way home, her mom looked over, her face thoughtful. "You know, Lena, I'm so proud of you. You're stronger than you realize. I can see it in the way you're handlin' all of this."

Lena smiled, her heart full of gratitude. "Thanks, Mama. I'm just tryin' to do right by her, y'know?"

Her mom nodded. "And you will. You've already made so many sacrifices. That's what bein' a mother is all about."

A Late-Night Call

That night, after her mom had gone to bed, Lena was windin' down when her phone buzzed. It was Que, and she could tell right away somethin' was off.

"Hey," she answered, her voice soft as she tried to read his mood.

"Hey, Lena," Que replied, his voice a bit tense. "I just wanted to check in, see how you and the baby are doin'."

"We're good, just waitin' on her to make her grand entrance," Lena chuckled, tryin' to lighten the mood.

There was a pause before Que spoke again, his tone somber. "I just... I been thinkin' a lot, Lena. About us, about the future."

Lena felt a pang in her chest, an uneasy feelin' creepin' in. "What's goin' on, Que?"

He hesitated, and she could feel his uncertainty even through the phone. "I just want you to know that, no matter what, I'm here. For you, for our daughter. I'm not goin' anywhere, alright?"

Lena's heart softened, and she nodded, even though he couldn't see her. "I know, Que. I'm glad you're here. She needs you... and I do too."

They shared a quiet moment, both of them takin' in the weight of his words. After they hung up, Lena lay awake, feelin' the mix of excitement and doubt stirrin' in her heart. She wanted to believe him, to trust that they'd find a way forward. But deep down, she sensed there was more to the story—somethin' he hadn't told her.

Reflections and Hopes

As she drifted off to sleep, Lena thought about the life she was about to bring into the world. She knew that motherhood would come with challenges, but she was ready to face them, with or without Que by her side. Her love for her daughter was stronger than any fear, and that gave her the strength to keep movin' forward.

No matter what the future held, Lena was determined to create a safe, loving world for her baby girl—a world filled with the kind of peace and happiness she'd always dreamed of. And as she closed her eyes, she whispered a silent promise to her daughter, vowing to protect her, cherish her, and give her a life filled with love.
