The next day, Lena found herself at her parents' house, enjoying the warmth of family around her. Amina, now four months old, was the center of attention, her chubby cheeks and bright smile bringing joy to everyone in the room. Lena's mom doted on her, holding Amina close and laughing as she made playful faces.Lena sat on the couch, deep in thought. Lately, she'd been considering whether it was time to come back home for good. Being in North Carolina felt isolating, especially when her mom wasn't able to stay with her. There, it was mostly just her and Amina. But here, surrounded by family, she felt a sense of security and community.
After a while, she decided it was time to bring it up with Que. She needed to know what he thought and if he'd be supportive of a move back to Georgia. With everything happening, she needed to know he was on the same page.
Que's POV
Meanwhile, Que was dealing with a whirlwind of thoughts himself. Layla was seven months along now, and he was more than ready to get the paternity test done once the baby was born. He didn't believe the child was his, but he knew that a clear answer was the only way to get Layla—and all the drama she brought—out of his life. His heart was with Lena and Amina, and he couldn't wait for the day when this lingering issue was behind them.
But that wasn't the only concern on his mind. The recent incident with the car that had been driving by his family's house was a reminder that their safety was always at risk. There were new faces in town—guys not from their area, but ones who were trying to muscle in on business, hoping to take over territory that wasn't theirs to begin with. These were the type who didn't respect the boundaries or the quiet ways that Que and his family handled things.
"I don't like this, Pops," he said to his dad as they met in his dad's office later that evening. "We keep things chill, handle our business, and stay out of the way. But these guys... they're greedy, and they're makin' moves that'll cause problems if we don't stay on guard."
His dad nodded, understanding the weight of Que's concerns. "We've kept things low-key for a reason. This is our city, and we've always handled it with respect. But you're right; these new guys don't seem to care about that."
Que sighed, rubbing his hands together as he leaned back. He didn't want trouble, but he wouldn't hesitate to protect what was his. His mind drifted to Lena and Amina, knowing that keeping them safe was his first priority.
As they discussed their options, Que felt the urgency building within him. He needed to keep Lena in the loop, to make sure she and their daughter were always protected. And with the uncertainty around Layla's baby, it only added to the pressure. But he was determined—no matter what, he'd ensure the safety of his family and secure a future free of drama.
Lena's Decision
Later that evening, Lena sat down to FaceTime Que, ready to discuss the idea of returning to Georgia permanently. As soon as he picked up, she saw the familiar smile on his face, his gaze softening when he saw Amina nestled in her arms.
"Hey," he greeted, his voice warm. "How's my girls?"
"We're good," Lena replied, smiling back. "But I wanted to talk to you about somethin' I've been thinking over. I'm startin' to feel like it might make sense to come back home for good. I mean, it's just me and Amina most of the time in North Carolina, and I want her to grow up around family."
Que's expression grew thoughtful as he nodded. "I get that, Lena. And I'd love to have you both closer. I don't want you feeling isolated out there."
She felt a wave of relief wash over her at his words, knowing he understood. "But we gotta figure out everything, Que. I need to know what's goin' on with this situation... with Layla and everything else."
He nodded, his face turning serious. "Trust me, Lena, I want this all sorted out too. Layla's baby is due soon, and as soon as it's born, I'll get that test done. I need answers as much as you do."
She sighed, feeling a glimmer of hope. "Alright. Once that's clear, we can make decisions together. I just want Amina to have a stable, peaceful life."
Que's voice softened. "Me too. I promise I'm gonna keep y'all safe, no matter what. Just trust me on this."
They exchanged a few more words, both feeling a sense of unity despite the challenges. And as Lena ended the call, she felt reassured, knowing that whatever happened, they'd face it together.
