Lena was movin' 'round the house, packin' up what she could for her and baby girl, Amina. After that run-in at Target, her nerves was shot, but she was focused. Que was comin' first thing in the mornin', and she wasn't about to stay here a second longer than she had to.She'd packed up Amina's clothes, a few toys, her favorite blanket—all the essentials. She knew Que would handle the rest later. Lena glanced over at her daughter sleepin' in her crib, feelin' a mix of relief and worry. She didn't want Amina growin' up around all this drama, but with Que by her side, she knew they'd figure it out.
Next Mornin': Que Shows Up
Lena barely slept, keepin' her phone close all night, just waitin' on Que's call. Right at sunrise, her phone buzzed, and she answered quick.
"Lena, I'm here," Que said, his voice steady but serious. "Grab y'all bags and come on down."
She grabbed the bags she'd packed, scoopin' up Amina, who was just startin' to wake up. By the time she got down to the car, Que was waitin', lookin' like he hadn't slept a wink. He took Amina from her arms, smilin' as he held his baby girl close.
"Y'all good?" he asked, lookin' at Lena with worry in his eyes.
"Yeah, we good. Just ready to get outta here," she replied, lettin' out a deep breath. They loaded up the car, and Que made sure everythin' was secure before they hit the road.
On the Road
As they drove, Lena couldn't shake the feelin' of unease. She glanced over at Que, who was focused, jaw clenched as he kept his eyes on the road.
"Que... who was that dude?" she finally asked, breakin' the silence.
He sighed, grippin' the wheel a lil' tighter. "Lena, it's some new cats in the city. They ain't from here, but they tryin' to make a name for theyself. Came in thinkin' they could mess with anybody to get what they want."
She shook her head, feelin' a mix of anger and fear. "So they just gon' come up on me like that? Tryin' to scare me?"
Que reached over, squeezin' her hand. "That's why I'm here. Ain't nobody gon' mess with you or Amina. Not while I'm 'round. They don't know who they messin' with."
His words made her feel safer, but Lena knew this was serious. She stayed quiet the rest of the way, just focusin' on Amina, who was babblin' happily in the backseat, oblivious to the world around her.
At Que's Place
They finally pulled up to Que's spot, and he helped her carry everythin' inside. He was on high alert, checkin' the locks, makin' sure everythin' was secure before they settled in.
"Alright," he said, once they were all inside. "Y'all stay put here. This place got top security, so you good. I don't want y'all worryin' 'bout nothin'."
Lena nodded, settlin' Amina down on the couch as she looked around the place. It was nice—comfortable and quiet, a whole lot different than her spot in North Carolina.
Que came over, sittin' beside her. "Look, Lena, I know this ain't what we planned. But I got a handle on this. Just need you to trust me."
She looked at him, feelin' the weight of it all but knowin' she ain't got much choice. "I trust you, Que. Just... promise me this ain't gon' be our life. I want Amina growin' up with peace."
He nodded, his gaze serious. "That's my plan, too. We gon' handle this and get back to what's real. You, me, and Amina. Ain't nothin' else that matters."
With that, Lena leaned back, lettin' herself relax a bit. It wasn't ideal, but at least they was all together. And with Que by her side, she felt like maybe, just maybe, they could find a way outta this mess and build a life that felt right.
