Lena's final doctor's appointment had arrived, a routine checkup to make sure everything was set for the baby's arrival. This time, though, her mom couldn't join her—she'd gone back home to check on things and visit family. That left Lena with Que, who had offered to drive her to the appointment. She agreed, but she kept quiet when he arrived, not ready to share any words that she didn't feel.

The car ride was filled with silence. Que occasionally reached over to rub her belly, his hand warm and gentle, but Lena didn't respond. She simply looked out the window, lost in her own thoughts. She wanted to focus on her excitement about her baby girl's arrival, but havin' Que there brought back the sting of their fractured relationship.

When they got to the doctor's office, they sat in the waiting room, the air between them heavy with unspoken words. Que looked at her a few times, maybe hopin' to break the ice, but Lena kept her gaze steady on the floor, her mind elsewhere.

Finally, her name was called, and they went back for the ultrasound. Lena's heart fluttered as the image of her baby girl appeared on the screen, and for a moment, her frustration faded into excitement. She asked the doctor how big they thought the baby might be, feelin' a rush of anticipation as she imagined holdin' her little one soon.

The doctor assured her that everything looked great, and as they wrapped up the appointment, Lena felt a mix of joy and relief. She was ready—nervous but ready.

An Awkward Ride Home

Once they left the doctor's office, Que asked if she wanted anything to eat. Lena shook her head, barely sparin' him a glance. She appreciated his efforts, but she wasn't ready to let go of her anger just yet.

He continued to rub her belly as they drove, his hand restin' there as if he was tryin' to find some connection, but Lena stayed quiet, keepin' her thoughts to herself.

When they reached her place, she opened the car door, expectin' him to stay behind, but to her surprise, Que got out too, followin' her up to the door. She turned to him, her voice firm but calm. "You don't have to come in. You don't have to stay. Mama will be back tomorrow."

Que simply ignored her words, walkin' past her and lettin' himself inside. Lena felt a surge of annoyance, but she held back, headin' upstairs to change into more comfortable clothes. Once she was dressed, she returned to the living room, resolvin' to keep her focus on herself and her baby.

Quiet Moments

Lena sat down on the couch, turnin' on the TV and scrollin' through her phone, doin' her best to ignore Que's presence. She headed to the kitchen, scooped herself a bowl of ice cream, and settled back down, lettin' the sweet taste of the treat bring her some comfort. She texted her friends, scrollin' through social media as she tried to relax, still barely sparin' Que a glance.

Que sat nearby, quiet but watchin' her, maybe hopin' for a chance to talk. But Lena wasn't ready for that—not yet. The silence stretched between them, filled with all the things neither of them wanted to say out loud.

As she ate her ice cream, she reminded herself of what mattered most—her daughter. No matter how things stood between her and Que, her focus was on the new life she was about to bring into the world. And right now, that was all she needed.
