Lena had just returned to her mom's house, feelin' a mix of emotions after her visit with Que. She gave Amina a warm bath, lettin' her little girl relax as she played in the water. Once she dried her off and settled her into a cozy onesie, Lena placed her in the crib her mom had set up in her old bedroom. After makin' sure Amina was sound asleep, she went to take a shower, lettin' the warm water ease her mind.Once comfortable, she climbed into bed, glancin' over at Amina, who was sleepin' peacefully. Just as she settled in, her phone buzzed with a message from Que.
Que: It meant the world to see both of you. I miss you so much, Lena. I know I messed up. I just wanted us to be a family.
Lena's heart ached, emotions stirrin' inside her. She decided to FaceTime him, feelin' the need to talk face-to-face. When he picked up, his expression softened as soon as he saw her.
"Que," she began, her voice quiet. "I want us to be a family too. But knowin' you might have another baby with someone else... it hurts. I never thought about bein' with anyone else but you." Her voice cracked as she fought to hold back tears. "I love you."
Que's eyes held a mix of sorrow and hope as he listened. "I love you too, Lena. And I don't think that baby is mine, but I'll do whatever it takes to make things right. I'm comin' to get my family back."
A small smile tugged at Lena's lips. "Maybe, when things are clear, we can figure somethin' out. The love is there, Que. We just... gotta get past this."
They exchanged a soft goodnight, both feelin' a glimmer of hope that they might have another chance. As they said their final goodbyes for the night, Lena felt a warmth in her heart, the kind she hadn't felt in a long time.
A Morning Surprise
The next morning, Lena woke up to soft, wet kisses on her cheek. Groggy, she opened her eyes to see Amina's chubby little face smilin' down at her, with Que right beside her, grinnin'.
"Hey, when did you get here?" Lena asked, surprised.
"About an hour ago," Que replied, chuckling. "Baby girl's been up. She's already eaten, and I got her dressed. Now it's your turn—let's go out and do somethin' today."
Lena smiled, noddin' as she got up to get dressed. Once ready, they headed out for breakfast together, enjoyin' a calm, peaceful morning as a family. After breakfast, they decided to stop by Que's parents' house to let them spend time with Amina.
An Unsettling Sight
As Que's family took turns cooin' over Amina, Lena stepped outside to relax on the porch, enjoyin' the warm air. As she sat there, she noticed a car drivin' down the street. The driver slowed down as they passed Que's parents' house, givin' the place a long look before continuin' down the road without stoppin'. Lena felt a chill run through her but brushed it off.
When Que came outside a moment later, she told him, "A car just drove by real slow, like they were watchin' the house or somethin'."
Que's face instantly hardened. "What?" he muttered, his voice tense. "Lena, get inside."
Her brows furrowed in concern, but she nodded, headin' back inside, feelin' a bit uneasy. "Que, what's goin' on?" she asked quietly.
"Nothin' you need to worry about," he replied, tryin' to sound reassuring. But his tone told her there was more to the story.
As Lena stood with Que's mom, she shared what she'd seen, her voice low. "A car just passed by real slow, like they were scoping out the house."
Que's mom's expression became serious, and she gave Lena a nod, understanding the worry behind her words. Que and his dad soon disappeared downstairs to his dad's office, talkin' in low voices. Lena stayed close with Que's mom, feelin' a bit out of place as tension filled the air.
Security on Alert
After a few minutes, Que and his dad returned to the living room, their faces set in determination. "We're gonna have to leave for a bit," Que said, his tone firm. "But we'll have someone keepin' an eye on the house, and security will be in place."
Lena's heart pounded, worry fillin' her mind. "Que, what's goin' on? Are we safe?"
Que placed a hand on her shoulder, his expression serious but calm. "You're safe, Lena. I'll make sure of it. Just trust me, okay?"
She nodded slowly, though the unease remained. Whatever was goin' on, she knew she had to rely on Que's judgment. But as she held Amina close, her mind raced, hopin' that whatever was happenin' would pass, and that they'd find a way to build the peaceful life she dreamed of.
