Chapter 39:
Nick's POV:I knew Jessi was really stressed with opening night coming up so I thought I'd help her relax a little.
I pulled into the parking lot and parked the car.
"What are we doing here?" Jessi asked.
I got out of the car without answering and went around to my trunk. Jessi followed me. I opened the trunk and took out the basket inside.
"We're having a picnic!" I exclaimed, taking Jessi's hand.
"What? Why?" She questioned.
"Because you've been working too hard and deserve a break!" I explained.
I led her to a shaded spot under a tree and took the blanket out of the basket. Once it was spread out, we sat down on it and placed the basket between us.
"It's 7:30 at night and we've already had dinner. Why did you bring a meal?" Jessi questioned.
"No one said anything about a meal." I began to empty the basket. "We have chocolate covered strawberries, brownies, and coloring books and crayons if we get bored." I told her.
"You are a literal child." She said as she picked up the My Little Pony coloring book. "But lucky for you I love coloring."
I smiled and watched her as she picked up a pink crayon and started coloring Pinkie Pie. I'm so lucky to have her.
She looked up from coloring and noticed me watching her.
"What?"
"You're just so..." I searched for the right word, but was left speechless.
"So what?" She asked.
"I don't know. Perfect?" I tried. She gave me a disbelieving look.
"No one has ever called me perfect before. I'm far from it."
"No you're not. Not really. You're perfect in your own Jessi way." She looked at me confused, so I explained. "You're silly and adorable and absolutely stunning. You're not afraid to be goofy or have a goofy boyfriend. You're almost always smiling and you keep a good attitude about things that may not always be good. You pout when you're angry, but you don't hold a grudge. You cry when you're sad but you're always willing to let me cheer you up. You give the best hugs and kisses and you're not afraid to show how much you care." Jessi had the biggest smile on her face right now, causing me to smile too. "You're perfect in your own way and I wouldn't ask for anything different."
As soon as I finished, Jessi crashed her lips onto mine. I placed my hand on the side of her cheek as I deepened the kiss.
As we separated, Jessi said the only words that would have made me happier at that moment.
