Chapter 26:
Jessica's POV:
Nick and I decided to go down the giant slide next. We went up the never ending stairs to the top, and picked a potato sack to sit on as we slid down. I got on it first, and Nick sat behind me, his legs on either side of mine.
"Are you ready?" He asked before pushing off.
I felt the rush of wind as we sped down. As the slide got steeper, I leaned back to keep my balance. I felt Nick inhale sharply at the sudden contact.
When we reached the bottom of the slide, Nick gave the sack to someone at the end. As Nick returned the sack, I noticed a girl walk by, hand in hand with who I assumed was her boyfriend. She was holding a stuffed animal, and kissed the boy on the cheek. I felt something in my heart: Jealousy. I wanted someone to look at me the way he looks at her. Not just anyone, though. I wanted AJ to look at me that way. The sad thing is, I know he never will.
"Whatcha looking at?" Nick asked, when he came back.
"What?" I wasn't really paying attention.
"I asked what you were looking at."
"Oh." I couldn't tell Nick about me wanting a boyfriend. He'd think I was weird. "I was looking at that girl's stuffed animal. Did you know I've never won a stuffed animal at a fair before?"
As soon as i said that, Nick took my hand and started leading me somewhere.
"Where are we going?" I asked, not really caring that much.
"I'm going to win you a stuffed animal." He said, determination in his voice.
"Yay!" I squealed.
