Chapter 6:

Jessica's POV:

"Pizza!" I heard Walker yell from the kitchen. Lauren practically ran yelling "Yay! I'm starving!"

"You're always starving." Nick said. I laughed remembering how she would always ask for everyone's food at lunch in college.

Once everyone had their pizza, we all sat in the living room and they asked me how I was doing in Nebraska.

"Not so good. The job I left for got taken by someone else, so now I have a lousy-paying job." I said, frowning. "I've made some great friends in Nebraska, but I miss all of you guys, especially AJ, since we grew up together." I looked around for AJ, but didn't see him anywhere. "Speaking of him, where is he?" I asked.

"He said he was going to be a little late. He had to grab something first." Brosenthal said.

As if on cue, there was a knock on the door.

"Speaking of the devil." Lauren said next to me, causing me to laugh. I quickly stood and almost ran to the door excitedly. When I opened it, I sadly didn't see AJ. I looked down and saw a note on the Welcome mat.

I smiled as I reached down and picked it up, remembering the game AJ and I would always play as kids. One of us would write a note with a clue to a room in the house and hide a special surprise there. The other one would figure out the clue, and look for the surprise.

The note said:

'I know it's been a while

since we've been face to face

but I hope you still remember

our secret hiding place'

As soon as I finished reading the note, I knew exactly where to go.

"What's that?" Jaime asked, pointing to the note that I had folded.

"It's a game AJ and I would play. He wants me to go find him." I laughed, thinking of how much I sound like a child playing hide and go seek. "You guys stay here. I'm going to go find AJ, then bring him back here."

"Don't take too long. We have other things planned for tonight!" Brolden shouted out the door as I walked to my car.

"I wont." I shouted back.

I got in my car, started it, and drove towards the street I grew up on. I stopped in front of my old house. I wanted to walk the rest of the way, remembering all the fun AJ and I had together. I got out of my car and started walking, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. I knew the neighborhood so well, I could walk to any location with my eyes closed.

I continued to walk, taking a left at the end of the block, following the curved sidewalk that I would walk down many times throughout my childhood.

I looked at my old elementary school as I passed it, remembering playing on the jungle gym with AJ and some of our old friends that I don't remember the names of.

Finally, I arrived at my destination. I looked out and nearly started crying, remembering how much time AJ and I used to spend there in the summer.
