Chapter 21:

Nick's POV:

I was in the living room talking to Matt about Twisted when Jessica came in crying. Sami was with her, leading her to her room. I wondered what could make her so upset. I was about to follow them into the room, but Vivian and Hailey stopped me.

I waited for anyone to tell me what just happened. Seeing Jessica so said, made me sad. Finally, Sami, Vivian and Hailey came out of the room.

"What happened?" I was the first one to ask.

"AJ just broke her heart." Sami said.

I was pissed. Even though AJ is one of my best friends, I wanted to strangle him. What did Jessi ever do to deserve a broken heart?

I stormed outside, looking for AJ. I found him a little ways down the street, walking away. I quickly ran up to him and turned him around.

"What the fuck did you do to Jessi?!" I yelled. "She came inside crying, and I was told it was you who caused her to cry." My fists were balled up. I was about ready to punch AJ, but he was still a little too far away.

"I didn't mean to hurt her feelings. I just told her that I liked Ali, and then I find out she likes me. I don't feel that way about her. We've known each other for too long. It'd just be weird." AJ said.

"If you don't like her that way, then why did you almost kiss her?"

"How did you know about that?"

"I saw you guys through the window." I explained casually.

"I don't know. It was just the mood. I had considered liking her, but she's like a sister to me. Why do you care so much about this anyway? I don't see anyone else coming out her about to beat me up." AJ said, looking back at the house. "It's like you like her or something."

That shut me up. Did he know? How could he know?

AJ must have seen the worry on my face, because his eyes suddenly got huge. "Oh my god! You like her, don't you?"

I turned around and ran back to the house. I couldn't let AJ find out.

I didn't say a word as I came into the house, grabbed a tub of ice cream from the freezer and a spoon, and walked down the hallway.

"She doesn't want anyone to go in there." I heard Hailey shout from the living room.

"I don't care." I wanted to be there to comfort Jessi. Just because she says she wants to be alone, doesn't mean she actually does.

I went into her room, and she smiled a little at the ice cream. I comforted Jessi as she ate. She was wrapped in my arms, just the way I like it to be.

That evening, she fell asleep in my arms. I started getting tired too, and I didn't want to wake her, so I just layed down on her bed and watched her sleep.
