Chapter 37:
Nick's POV:

I didn't know what to think as I drove Jess home after our date. she seemed to have fun, but I worried that it just wasn't enough. I know that I enjoyed it, but what do I know about what girls like? That's right, like nothing.
Jess looked over at me, with a bright smile on her face. "Thanks for taking me to the fair!" she kind of half said, half giggled.
"You really enjoyed it? I wasn't sure what to do, what would make a lasting effect on you and make you like me, but when I heard that you'd never been on a roller coaster, why, I couldn't ask you fast enough. Oh, sorry, I'm rambling, aren't I?" I'm sure my face was redder than a tomato between the excitement of today, and how nervous I was. I hoped she couldn't tell.
As we neared the manor, I was getting steadily more nervous. I didn't want our date to come to an end, but I also knew that it was getting late and we had busy schedules.
I pulled into the drive and as I shifted the car into park, I felt a warm hand on mine. Jess was looking at me, as if to thank me yet again. "Don't thank me, it's you I should be thanking. Thank you for coming with me, and for trying the roller coaster, and for everything. You have been an amazing date." I know that I was blushing at this point.
"Oh, just-" she cut off, blushing as well. Neither of us said anything for a little bit. I admired her blue eyes reflecting the light from the street lamps and car lights. She kept looking up at me through her eyelashes, then would blush and glance away.
"Oh! I almost forgot. I got this for you." I said, taking out the blue jewelry box.
"What's this?" She asked, taking the box and opening it. "You didn't! Oh my goodness thank you so much! You didn't have to get this for me."
"I promised I would get you something for trying the roller coaster, and you really wanted this necklace, so I decided it was the perfect gift. Here, let me put it on you."
Jessi turned her back towards me and I brought the necklace around and attached it behind her. She turned back around and just smiled at me.
I couldn't help but wish we both weren't so timid, when suddenly, there were soft lips on my cheek. "I really, really, really like you, Nick." Her words came out as a whisper against my right cheek and ear.
I slowly turned my head and caught her lips with mine in a slow and gentle kiss. She was startled for a moment, but then kissed back hesitantly.
Before it got to be more than a simple kiss, I stopped it. I care way too much for her to let it get too far so soon. I'm sure that both of us had goofy smiles and crazy blushes when we walked back into the manor, hand in hand, but no one commented.
As we parted ways at her door, I leaned in for another small kiss. I could feel Jess smile into the kiss, and I knew that I had gotten the day just right. I hugged her goodnight, and walked over to my room.
I don't know about her, but I couldn't stop thinking about my Jess until long after I had fallen asleep.
