Chapter 48:
Jessica's POV:

I sat on the couch cuddling with Nick and watching my friends with their new boyfriends. I was so happy that my friends were happy. For a moment, everything seemed to be perfect.
But only for a moment.
My phone buzzed and when I saw who it was, my heart dropped. I motioned to Nick that I was going to take this call in another room where it wasn't so loud.
I closed the door to my bedroom and reluctantly answered the phone.
"Hello?" I asked, but I already knew who it was.
"Hello Jessica, it's Morgan. How are you?" She faked interest.
"Good." I said, cautiously.
"That's good. Well anyway I was calling to see when you were coming back. I know you had your final performance tonight and I need to know when to expect you back at work."
Crap! I totally forgot that I still had a job in Nebraska!
"Umm..I'm not entirely sure yet." I said, trying not to sound like I absolutely hated this phone call, which I did.
"Well we need you back by August 13th because we have our big annual sale and we're going to need all the help we can get."
"Alright. I guess I'll see you then." I said. I hung up and gave a sigh of frustration.
"What's wrong?" I jumped at the voice coming from the door. I saw Nick standing there looking worried.
"Work. I totally forgot that I still have a life in Nebraska." I explained. "They want me back by August 13th."
"But that's only two weeks away!"
"I know. I really don't want to leave but I have to." I looked up at Nick. "I'm really going to miss you."
"I don't know what I'll do without you." Nick replied.
"Just do whatever you did all those years without me." I suggested.
"But it's different now. I love you so much and I can't imagine being away from you for who-knows-how-long." Nick embraced me in a warm hug.
"I love you too, but I have no choice. I have no job here, and even if I did I still have to go back for my two weeks notice." I enjoyed his warmth for just a moment longer before separating myself from him. "But let's not think about this now. We have a party to enjoy!" I took his hand, put a (fake) smile on my face and tried to have a fun rest of the night.
