The night was alive with the distant hum of festival chatter, the scent of fresh food filling the cool air.
"You overthink a lot, Sanemi!"
Sorai flew over Sanemi's head, slowly landing on the table.
"Shut up, you don't know how fucking difficult it is!"
Sanemi pulled his haori tighter around himself, his heart hammering wildly in his chest as he stepped out of his estate.
Alright, alright... just breathe.
He told himself, gripping the small pouch at his side where the ring box was hidden.
The words he had practiced ran through his head over and over, each repetition making his anxiety rise instead of calming it.
Tch! Why am I so nervous?
This was Giyuu, his Giyuu. But tonight... tonight was different.
He had to make this perfect.
He was walking faster than he intended, each step bringing him closer to Giyuu's estate.
The lanterns glowed softly along the path, the wind rushing past him, cool against his skin.
Midnight. That was when the fireworks would start. That was when he would-
Sanemi swallowed thickly, shaking his head.
No messing up tonight. No stuttering. No nervous wreck behavior. I need to fucking do it this time!
Before he knew it, he was standing at Giyuu's door.
Taking a deep breath, Sanemi lifted a fist and knocked.
"Oi, Giyuu! I'm here, are you ready yet?"
...
Inside, Giyuu sat frozen, staring at his reflection in the mirror.
He had spent way too long making sure everything was right. The dark blue kimono, the neatly tied sash, the way his hair fell slightly over his forehead...
Would Sanemi even notice?
Giyuu's fingers curled slightly. It was ridiculous how much he cared about his appearance now.
He never used to.
But for Sanemi, he wanted to look... good.
He exhaled, cheeks slightly pink, before standing up and hurrying to the door.
He took a steadying breath before opening it.
And the moment their eyes met, time seemed to stop.
Sanemi's breath caught in his throat.
Giyuu...
Giyuu looked flawless. Something straight out of perfection.
Sanemi was frozen, completely.
His entire body locked up as his brain shut down, staring at the man in front of him like he had just been struck by lightning.
...
Giyuu shifted slightly under Sanemi's intense gaze, his blush deepening.
"...Is something wrong?"
The moment those soft words left Giyuu's lips, Sanemi snapped back to reality.
Wrong?
WRONG?!
Is Giyuu out of his damn mind?!
Sanemi didn't even let Giyuu say another word.
Without hesitation, his hands shot up, cupping Giyuu's cheeks, his rough fingers impossibly gentle against his skin.
