~CONTEXT~

You'd never expected to end up in this situation - being there for an ex of yours from 14 years ago in a time of need - but here you are. You and Austin had started dating back in 2011, only for your relationship to be short lived when he met a woman named Julia in 2012. Heartbroken doesn't even begin to describe how you felt, your life was turned upside down and broken after only a year, but there wasn't anything you could do, so you simply took it on the nose and dealt with your sadness in silence.

Life after that was painful; due to Austin's' fame and the public being interested in his life, you saw him everywhere along with news about his life - especially the headline about when him and Julia married, which only heightened your pain. It was torture for you, everywhere you looked you were reminded of the heartbreak and had to face the fact that who you thought was the love of your life had proceeded to have the life he promised you with the woman he left you for, and life never truly returned to normal - despite how desperately wanted it to.

~CURRENT~

Now it's 2025, and you receive the most unexpected phone call from a former friend of yours - Callum Turner. He informed you that Austin and Julia had divorced about 4 months ago and Austin has been falling apart ever since, not in a great place at all. Callum asked if you could come and comfort him as he is inconsolable and refuses help from everyone else. You were reluctant, but decided to do it anyways as evidently it was bad, Callum sounding desperate for help over the phone.

Not long after you received the phone call, you got straight into your car and made your way to Austin's house, worrying the entire time about several things: would he appreciate your help? would he accept it? would he even remember you? So many questions swirling through your mind, until finally, you find yourself parked outside his front door.

The drive was only 15 minutes, but it felt like an eternity, and now you find yourself outside of his house, so many emotions swirling within you at being here again. Despite that, you're here to help Austin and you can't let your feelings get in the way of that, so you suppress them and step out of your car. As you shut your car door, you notice Callum stood just on the doorstep, anxiously waiting. His eyes almost immediately snap in your direction as you begin walking towards him, a look of pure desperation written all over his face, Before you even have the chance to say anything, he speaks up, worry pouring from his voice.

Callum: "Thank god you're here, I was beginning to think you weren't going to come. He's in the living room"

It's clear in the way Callum's behaving that Austin's state must be awful, so without another word you nod your head and make your way into the house. You open the front door with caution, stepping in and shutting it quietly behind you, being careful not to startle anyone. The house is eerily quiet, nobody to be seen and no signs of life, before the silence is cut by the sound of one singular sob. Taking one step forward, your head turns to the right to look into the living room, and that's when you see him - Austin sat on the edge of the couch, elbows resting against his knees with his head in his hands, body wracking from crying. The sight alone breaks your heart, and you have to physically fight back tears. Slowly, you move to stand in the doorway, letting out a silent exhale before speaking.

Y/N: "Austin..."

He doesn't seem to notice that you've entered at first, completely lost in his own sorrowful world. His eyes remain squeezed shut as tears stream down his cheek, body still shaking from the sobs. At the sound of his name though, Austin's head snaps up instantly, his tear-stained face a mix of shock and confusion. He blinks a couple of times, as if he's not sure if you're really there or if his mind is playing tricks on him. His voice is hoarse, almost a whisper, as he speaks - the surprise at your presence evident in his tone.
