**Guinevere’s POV**

“I feel like we are back in school lying beside the lake before finals.” I tell Fred as we lay on the grass staring up at the stairs through the trees. We had found an old, abandoned cabin in the woods where we put protective enchantments around it so we could make it a permanent residence.

“Why before finals?” He chuckles.

“Because we both knew we were supposed to be studying yet there we were, slacking off. You know we were super lucky we did well in school.”

“Yea, you’re right. You know there has been something I have wanted to ask you for a long time. I just never could bring myself to do it.”

“What’s that?” I ask truly curious.

“I don’t know if I want to say. It just seems so pointless after everything.”

I shake my head. “After everything we have been through, you have every right to ask. And—.” I stop not able to continue my sentence.

“Go on--.”

“Well I want everything said before this battle. I don’t want anything unsaid because we won’t all make it out alive.” Fred grabs my hand and squeezes. He takes a deep breath before finally deciding to tell what has been on his mind for so long.

“Why did you choose Cedric over me?”

I stare up at the sky for a while. I never really thought about it.

“I just knew he wouldn’t hurt me.”

“I’m sorry.” He tells me. Tears well up in his eyes. “Why can’t we just go back in time?”

“Well, we wouldn’t have Allura.” I say thoughtfully. “I don’t know what I would do without her.”

“Me either. She’s kept me sane through all of this Charlie business. I just don’t understand. He knew you were going to leave. He knew why. At first I thought Vanessa was a rouse to throw everyone off—but now, she’s pregnant.”

“You, George and now Charlie—I was dead set on marrying a Weasley and each one of you broke my heart.” Fred rolls to his side and stares intensely into my eyes.

“I have regretted it every single day.”

“I don’t know why you guys do this to me.”

“Do what?” Fred asks curiously.

“Love me unconditionally.”

“I have never fallen out of love with you. Neither has George.”

“Well George is married. That ship has long sailed away.”

“He won’t ever love her like he loves you.”

“And how do you know?”

“Because we are the same. We have both loved you since day one. Nothing will ever change our feelings for you—not even the fact you have three kids with our older brother.”  He muses.

“You were my first love; you never get over your first love.”

“I know. But here we are now, despite the turns life has given us.” Fred tells me. Before I know it I’m kissing him and he’s kissing me back. And while Allura and dad sleep, we make love for the first time under the starlit sky.

**Fred’s POV**

Although we both know we should feel guilty, we don’t. Charlie betrayed Guinevere and this only seemed right for us. Who knows how long we have to live? That’s why on Sunday before I take Allura, I promise to come back. I pull her to the side of the house and kiss her passionately. She giggles like she did when we were young and would sneak around mum and dad to snog behind the shed.

As I take Allura home, she seems almost happy for the first time in a while. “Can we go see mommy again soon?” She asks me in a hopeful tone. I smile and promise we will go see her this weekend. Allura is satisfied and is almost pleasant to Charlie when we walk in the door.

“Why are you so happy” he teases me as Allura and I stroll through the front door.

“Eh, just feeling accomplished. The shop is about to have a ton more merchandise that will attract a wider crowd.”

“Good.” Vanessa says patting me on the back. “My baby needs a successful uncle to look up too.” She smiles sincerely at me. It’s weird.

Days go by and I can’t help but daydream about Guinevere. I’m planning on seeing her the day after Easter but we get news of Harry being captured with Ron and it forces the entire house into hiding. It’s tight knit and extremely uncomfortable. I find myself grinning as I work with George and he is beginning to suspect something. As more days drag by I cannot concentrate. I excuse myself from the dinner table one afternoon and decide to apparate to the cabin in the woods. Guinevere’s face lights up when she sees me.

“How is everyone? I have been trying to see the outcome—.” I press my finger to her lips. “They are fine. Harry, Ron and Hermione escaped.”

“Things around here are getting scary. I hear people around here at night and I’m afraid for dad. Do you think you can take him back with you?” She pleads with me. I nod and flick my wand to pack his things despite his protests.

“Dad, please listen. I know this is the right thing to do. I promise I will see you very soon.” She tells her distraught father. He looks hurt at me. His red, swollen eyes make my stomach turn.

“I don’t want to lose you again.” He tells her in defeat.

“You won’t. I pinky promise I will see you very soon.” And with that said they pinky promise. It’s something they did when she was a little kid. “I love you, dad.”

“I love you too.” He whispers tearfully as we apparate and disappear.
