**George’s POV**

“Where is everybody?” I ask Fred as we walk into the kitchen of the headquarters. Fred just shrugs and grabs an apple off the table.

“The Order is coming for dinner.” Mum tells me as she scurries through the kitchen drying her eyes on her handkerchief.

“Mum, you okay?” Fred asks tossing the remainder of his apple to Kreacher who disgustedly throws it aside.

“First Guinevere and now Sirius--” She sobs on Fred’s shoulder.

“Sirius?” I say. “What about Sirius?” Mum’s eyes grow wide with grief.

“You didn’t hear about the battle at the ministry?” She asks surprised. Both Fred and I shake our heads.

“Here.” Mum says throwing me the Daily Prophet. Both Fred and I read it quickly.

“Voldemort exposed himself?” Fred asks stunned. Mum nods her head sadly. “But what does that have to with S—“It’s like a ton of bricks hits both Fred and I simultaneously. “He’s dead.” Fred and I say in unison.

“I’m afraid so. And poor Harry, he is too young to have seen so much loss.” Mum retorts taking a seat at the table rubbing her temples. “I think we will be moving Headquarters tonight so if you left anything here, grab it now. I know a lot of Guin’s things are still in that room. You can leave them here if you want.”

“Leave them.” Fred says harshly.

“No, I’ll get them.” I reply taking a step towards the door. Mum’s face turns fearful. Fred and I had this fight often, the biggest being when he burned all of her pictures. I hid one in my bedroom for safe keeping.

“Verity doesn’t like her stuff in the apartment.” Fred says flatly. I roll my eyes and continue to the door.

“I don’t care. It will be in my room.” I reply nastily. Fred grabs the collar of my shirt and swings me around so I punch him in the face. Mum jumps up screaming. Soon dad and Lupin run into the room tearing us apart.

“Again!” Remus yells. Both Fred and I ignore him. We scowl at one another waiting for the slightest loosening of their grip so we can pounce on another again.

“She’s not dead, Fred. I know you can feel it too!” I yell for what must be the billionth time over the last few months. I hear everyone moan in the background.

“She’s dead, George! She left us. She never cared about us! It’s time to move on like I have!” He spits out at me.

My stomach burns with rage. “I can’t just shack up with a girl I just met because I am hurt!” I tell him, blinded by hot tears.

“I love verity, leave her out of this!” Fred retorts. Everyone in the room is dead silent, just watching.

“Well I’m in love with Guinevere and I don’t just believe she’s gone!” I yell as loud as I can. It had been dying to come out for years but I almost regretted saying it as soon as it passed my lips. Fred’s face turns immediately to understanding than to hurt. We stand facing one another, panting, lost for words.

“Well she’s gone. So it doesn’t matter who you loved and who she loved.” Fred says quietly, pulling his arm from dads grip and leaving Headquarters. I inhale deeply and rub my eyes. I am completely choked up. Mum comes and rubs my back soothingly.

“Does it ever get better?” I choke out. I now understand how Guinevere felt when Cedric was murdered.

“It will.” Mum says quietly, still a bit shaken from the fight.
