As sleeping was hard to do all night, I was up before my drunken ass father woke up. I got up from bed and walked to my closet. I pulled out my Anthem Made black shirt that says 'We Are The Scene', light jean shorts, and ankle boots.

I did my morning routine and when I was finally going to put my shirt on, I looked in the mirror and saw the purplish, yellow bruise covering my side, along with the burn on my stomach. As I pulled the shirt over my head, I winced from the pain inflicting on my ribs as my arms stretched up. I changed as quickly as I could and walked to Jaiden's room.

"Jaiden." I whispered her name as I shook her gently.

She opened her honey colored eyes and blinked slowly. I sat on the bed beside her and brushed the hair out of her face as I smiled down at her. She smiled up at me as she stretched.

"Good morning, Jai." I smiled at her ignoring the pain from my stomach.

"Morning, Alex." She smiled at me.

"Why don't you go get ready so we can leave before..."I trailed off knowing she'd know why.

Her smile disappeared and she nodded. She got out of bed and walked to her closet to get ready. I walked out of her room to go make her some breakfast. I made eggs, bacon, and toast. She walked out in jeans and a pink shirt with a yellow smiley face with black long hair and the words 'Just Smile' written in yellow.

I handed her a plate and as she began eating, we heard a loud noise coming from our parent's room. Our heads snapped towards their door.

Oh shit.

Our father has woken up.

"Shit." I hissed and looked at Jaiden.

She immediately got up and ran to get her backpack. I was about to go and start the car when I saw her plate. She barely ate anything. I frowned at that.

"Alex! Let's go." Jaiden whispered hurriedly.

I looked up at her and when I saw the fear in her eyes, all worries about her eating disappeared and I ran after her out the door before our father saw us. I made him breakfast as well before so he wouldn't be so hard on my mom this morning.

We ran to the car and I started it up. I put my red sunglasses on and sped out of there and to Jaiden's school. I turned the radio on and 'If I'm James Dean, Then You're Audrey Hepburn' by Sleeping with Sirens began playing. I mumbled the lyrics as I drove, then when I glanced at Jaiden, I saw her looking out the window mumbling the lyrics as well. That made me smile. We have the same taste in music.

I arrived at her school and she turned to me. She hugged me and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"Bye, Alex." She smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Bye, but hey, don't go off and leave school again." I warned her half-jokingly.
