“What. The. F*ck. Is. That?” He asked in a low dangerous tone.

I yanked my shirt away from his hands and smoothed it down. I shrugged acting nonchalant.

“I was going down the stairs this morning, but I was still too sleepy, that I tripped and fell down the stairs.” I lied through my teeth; I didn’t even have stairs in my house; it’s a one story house.

I shrugged acting as if it was not a big deal after I lied to him.

Actually it wasn’t a big deal. I mean I’ve gotten beat so many times in so many different ways that I’m just used to it. I normally just become numb to the pain.

As a matter a fact, one time Sebastian and Fausto had beaten me up so badly, that my body became so numb to the pain, I just sat there as they took their sick pleasure beating me. I actually fell as sleep as they beat me. No, I didn’t pass out. I’ve passed out from beatings before and that’s not what happened that day. My mind had just blocked out all the pain being inflicted on my body. It was that bad.

He stared at me as if trying to see if I was lying or not. Unfortunately for him, I’ve become an expert in lying from all the years of lie that I have following me. So, no matter how much I feel like he can see right through me, he will never be able to tell that I’m lying.

“The bruises that I’ve seen on you are way too many, too harsh, and too often to just be accidents Alex.” He said as his eyebrows started slowly scrunching up as if he were thinking hard. “You’ve asked me more than once if I’ve been beaten.” He stared into my eyes intently. “Have… Have you been…” He said nervous about my answer.

I sighed as if I were irritated with him. “We’ve had this conversation before Jason.” I said giving him a dull look.

We stayed quiet for a while as he seemed to be analyzing me. Watching me carefully as he assessed all the small facts he’s known or seen about me, as well as everything I have told him to see if it all added up.

“Hey, I still have the munchies. Can we go eat somewhere? I’m still haven’t come down fully from my high?” He finally spoke.

I smirked at him. “Where you wanna go?”

“Honestly, I don’t give a f*ck. I just want to get some damn food in me.” He answered with a goofy grin proving he is still in fact a bit high.

“How about we go to that Café at the corner of the ice-cream shop?” I suggested.

“Perfect!” He stood up and grabbed my arm pulling me up with him.

He pulled me so hard that I crashed right into his chest. Our eyes locked. We were just a hairsbreadth away from each other. Then… we start laughing.

He put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me close to his side. We were still laughing a bit, but I hugged him sideways. We walked to the parking lot and he steered us to my car. I looked at him questioningly.
