The rest of the day went by like a breeze. No, I didn't spend my time thinking of Jason. I spent the day thinking about my sister, my mom, my father, Derek, and my races. There's just too much in my life to be thinking about some creep.

The final bell of the day rang and I was out of there faster than road runner. My sister is getting out of the hospital today so I have to hurry.

As I was rushing to my car I bumped into someone. I just mumbled a quiet sorry and kept fast walking towards my car. A simple sorry didn't seem like enough for the person I bumped because as soon as I stepped foot on the pavement of the parking lot, someone grabbed my arm and spun me around to face them.

"Where are you going is such a hurry?" The deep mysterious voice asked.

I pulled my arm away from him and gave a frustrated sigh as I ran a hand through my hair.

"I don't have time for this Jason. What do you want? Make it quick." I said. Irritation clear in my voice. He just won't leave me alone.

"Come to my party tonight at 10. Here's the address see you there." He said cockily before walking away.

He didn't even ask me he told me to go! Like hell I will. I have to take care of my little sister and she hasn't been home for 2 days now so my dad will be pissed. I don't even know if I will be able to make it to the street race tonight. F*ck! I really need that money.

I hopped on the car and drove to the hospital.

I walked quickly through the glass gliding doors and through the white halls until I reached Jaiden's room.

She was lying on the bed watching a 'George Lopez' re-run. She seemed engrossed in the episode. She didn't even notice I had walked into the room.

"Hey Jai." I smiled at her as I walked towards her bed to give her hug.

"Hey Alex." She smiled back. She seemed happy, but not as happy as the day I left her with Titi.

"How you doing?" I asked sitting down next to her on the bed.

"Good actually. I am used to the pain so I'm sort of numb to it now and the nurses treat me well. They are nice and caring. There's also a lot of pudding! The doctor checked on me constantly and they let me watch t.v." Jaiden replied in an excited voice.

I chuckled at how happy she sounds. Too bad it's all coming to an end as soon as I pay the hospital bill.

Damn! The hospital bill. That's going to take all the money I have. My father is going to be even more pissed when he finds out I have no money to give him today. Plus I have to help my mom out with all the house bills. I might have to dip into my college fund. I didn't want to do that. That's my escape money for when I graduate. But if I have to dip into any savings it will be MY college fund money, NOT Jaiden's. I have been saving that money for when it's her turn to escape and I won't take any of that money. Even if it means that I won't have enough money to go to college...

While my thoughts were running wild in my head Jaiden had gone back to watching the show. I have to go pay the f*cking bill now. Shit.

"Jaiden, I'll be right back k?" I asked her as I stood up from my spot on the bed.

She spared me a glance and said, "K.", before returning her attention to the show.

I walked out of the room and to the front desk of the hospital. There was the same nurse that was there when I brought Jaiden in.

"Hi. Are you here for the little girl, Jaiden?" The nurse asked nicely and with a small kind smile.

I gave her a small smile myself, but my was more tired and sad. "Ah, yes. I'm here to pay her hospital bill."

She gave me a confused look. "Why aren't her parents paying the bill?"

"They are. It's their money. I just came to pay it and take her home." I replied easily.

She nodded and typed in her computer before she printed out the bill. She handed me the sheet of paper and my eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.

Damn! Hospitals cost a fortune!

I luckily had enough money and gave it to her. The unlucky thing is that it really was all the money I had. Which leaves no money for my father. I have no problem with that, but he will.

After I took care of the bill I walked back to Jaiden's room. Inside the room was a young nurse. She had ginger curly hair tied in a messy bun wearing the usual nurse's uniform and white tennis shoes.

"Oh. Hello." The nurse greeted as soon as she spotted me standing by the door. He voice was cheerful and kind.

"Hi." I said with a small smile before turning to Jaiden. "Jai. We gotta go."

Jaiden's happy mood turned to one of fear and sadness. She nodded her head and stood up from the bed. The nurse gave Jaiden her clothes and she walked into the bathroom to change. A few minutes later she walked out. The nurse went up to her and gave her a spoon and chocolate pudding. Jaiden smiled up to her and we walked back to my car in silence.

As soon as we both were in the car is when she decided to break the silence.

"Alex..." Jaiden said in a low voice.

"Yeah?" I asked as I turned the ignition on.

"Do we have to go home?" She whispered.

I froze for a moment.

What can I say to her? Yes, Jaiden we have to go home to an evil bastard who is going to beat us to a pulp because mom is too weak to leave him and we have nowhere else to go.

Yeah not saying that!

"I'm sorry. We do have to, but I will always protect you Jaiden. I can't stop him fully from hitting you because he will try doing it when I can't get to you, but as soon as I get to you I WILL stop him. I'm so so sorry." I told her quietly. My voice wavering. She really doesn't deserve this life.

I was about to pull out when my phone vibrated. I pulled it out and saw it was a text from Jerry. I have a race in three hours, I almost forgot. I opened the text and it read,

'Reed, the race today is postponed. Derek had it postponed for unknown reasons so the race won't be until tomorrow same time. Come tomorrow earlier to do a test run before the race.' -Jerry.

What the f*ck?! Why did he postpone it? He must be up to something.

I replied a quick fine and put my phone back in my pocket before pulling out of the hospital parking lot.

"What was the text about? You seem upset." Jaiden said.

"Nothing Jai. It's just I had plans today and they were cancelled." I sighed and kept my eyes on the road.

"Alex?"

"Yeah?"

"Can we go to Titi's house?"

I furrowed my eyebrow. "Why?"

"Because I don't want to go home just yet."

I couldn't say no to her. I just nodded and headed to Titi's house. I also want to avoid getting home for at least a while longer. What better place than Titi's house?

-------Author's Note------------

This chp is boring I know... I was going to put the scene when they get home, but last minute i was like let's instead take them to Titi's house!!! So yeah...
