My buzzing phone woke up suddenly. I looked down at Jaiden and sae her eye badly swollen. I winced at the sight. She won't be able to go to school for a couple of days. That sadden me because school was her only escape. Without school she is entrapped here with that beast we call our father. Anger was beginnig to surge through me thinking of that bastard. My thoughts were interrupted by my phone buzzing again.

"Hello?" I whispered not wanting to wake Jaiden up.

"Alex, where are you? The race starts in 20 minutes, but the race fee closes in 10 minutes." said the male voice on the other end.

"Crap" I said glancing at my phone to see the time, it was 11:40 pm, "Sorry, I dozed  off. I'll be there in seven."

"Hurry!" he replies before hanging up.

I quickly but carefully lifted my sister's head up from my arm and placed it gently on her pillow. I kissed her forehead and opened her bedroom window. I jumped out and landed on the brownish grass with a soft thud. I ran towards an old shed in the far back of our house. I opened the slightly creaking door and flinched. I hope my father didn't hear that. I pulled out my motorcycle and walked it out into the street and around the corner before hopping on and turning the engine on. The sound of the engine made a bright smile crawl onto my face. I press the accelerator and rush down through the dark empty streets until I reached the worst part of town.

There were hookers at every corner. The walls were cold and musty, and the air was thick and cold, and there was a weird smell that circulated around you. There were also very dangerous looking guys with guns and/or knives standing around dark alleys waiting for their next victim.

I finally reached a very large loud crowd standing around many cars. I immediately spotted Titi, the guy who called me, surrounded by many people waving their money in front of his face yelling out bets. Titi initiates the races and handles the money that is put in for every race. Anyone who wants to race has to put in a certain amount of money to be able to enter the race. Then the crowd puts in their bets on who will win. The people who get the money are the ones who bet on the winner, the winner, and the person who handles the money, Titi, but of course the winner gets the biggest amount.

I parked my motorcycle and hopped off. My long hair flowing perfectly agaisnt the cool wind. Titi waved me over and I pushed through the crowd to get to him.

"About time." Titi says.

I smile and place my money on the tha table in front of him. He counts it before putting it away.

"Where's my car?" I ask excitedly.

He says nothing, but signals me to follow him. He opens the very heavy metal doors of a private garage and inside parks my green car, that has black on the hood and top of the car and has like a strange blue and white figure in the side that sort of looks like a bird. My eyes got a dazed expression. I absolutely love cars. Their speed and power make me feel free. Like I have nothing to worry about and I can ride for miles and miles without ever getting caught, to get away from everything or rather someone. My cars and my motorcycle are the only good things in my life and I won't let anyone take them away from me.

I walk slowly to the car. I slide the tips of my fingers across the smooth structure of the car. I was about to open the door when Titi spun me around. He ran his thumb lightly over the open cut on my cheekbone. I fliched. It still hurts a lot.

"Did Gabe do this to you?" Titi asked, concern covering his deep dark brown eyes.

Titi has known me since I was ten when I first tried running away from home and ended up in these streets. He took me in, fed me and healed the wounds that my father caused. He is my closest friend almost like family, but he doesn't know that it is my father who beats me.
