Chapter 69 - Lover Boy

Crouching low, hidden amongst various boxes and crates, Caspian signals to Atlas and Xavier to keep low and silent. It is the early hours of the morning, and they are in the cargo bay, awaiting the daily delivery truck to arrive and deliver the CBC compound supplies. Caspian has timed the deliveries countless times, he knows when the trucks arrive, how long it takes them to unload and re-load.

Finally, the truck arrives, backing into the cargo bay. CBC soldiers begin unloading the supplies and re-loading the truck with the special coolers that contain the precious shifter blood and plasma. Caspian looks over at Atlas, who is holding Xavier close to him. Atlas has his hand held loosely over the Xavier's mouth, as a reminder for the pup to stay silent.

"Hey Tony, how's it going? Check out this chick's tinder profile, we're going on a date tonight. She's so hot!" says the truck driver as he pulls out his phone to show the large CBC guard pics of his tinder date. As the two men drool over the the images, Caspian nods to Atlas. This is their opportunity to sneak onto truck. With the skill of many years of training, Atlas stealthily moves without sound, lifting Xavier onto the truck bed. Caspian follows close behind, copying the Alpha's movements. They manage to get into the truck safely and hide behind the stacks of special transport coolers, containing shifter blood.

Come on, come on! Caspian is looking at his watch, the truck should have left by now, but the idiot truck driver is still bragging about his tinder date. Finally, the truck driver gets back in the vehicle and starts it up, pulling out of the cargo bay. Caspian's keen wolf hearing can sense when they have approached the compound gates and can hear the gates being opened for the truck to exit. He unclenches his fists and exhales a breath he didn't realise he was holding, they're almost free.

Suddenly a massive alarm begins blaring on repeat. Men are running in all directions; orders are being yelled. Slamming on the breaks, the truck driver is being told to halt. The compound gates have been slammed shut and are being barricaded. Caspian looks over at Atlas, who is holding onto Xavier with white knuckles. Think, think, what to do now? Caspian knows the truck will most certainly be searched, they have to get out of there.

"We need to get out of here, they will search the truck soon. I'll exit first and see what is happening. I'll try to distract them, while you make your escape. On the western permitter, there is a spot I've marked with some old stacked up crates. Move the crates, and you'll see there is a small hole in the fence, that I've been slowly working at each day to make bigger. I think Xavier could fit through the hole now. Once he's through, you shift. If you jump off the crates in wolf form, you should be able to leap the fence" says Caspian.

"What about Caspy? He needs to come too, the bad men will put him in the cage" says Xavier, as he clasps his father's hand, looking up with pleading eyes. Atlas looks down at his son's puppy dog eyes.

"Xavier's right. It's too late now Caspian, they already know you've betrayed them. The CBC will never let you go after this. You need to come with us. Besides I'll need your help with Xavier at the fence. You shift first and jump the fence, then you can help me get Xavier through from the other side. I'll follow once Xavier is safely through".

Carefully pulling back the tarp sides of the truck, Caspian peers through the gap. He sees the truck driver exiting the cab and speaking to the guards. Timing it carefully, they manage to pull back the tarp enough to exit the side of the truck, quickly rolling underneath the truck, lying low and hidden, waiting for their chance to sneak over to the western perimeter of the fence. Soldiers are running in all directions, it appears all hell is breaking loose. Orders are being yelled, the gates have been slammed shut and are being barricaded. Atlas grips Xavier close to him, it doesn't seem possible they can get out from underneath the truck without being detected.

"Search the truck!" yells Tony, the very large CBC soldier that was about to electrocute Xavier yesterday. They hear soldiers entering the truck above them, moving the stacked coolers around, thank the goddess they had gotten out of there in time. Will they search underneath the truck too? Most certainly they will.

"Search the cab, and underneath the truck too!" they hear Tony yell. This is it; they're going to be discovered. Just then they hear an almighty thunderous wolf howling, so loud, the can feel the ground shake. Atlas knows that howl, that's his uncle's blue blood wolf, looking down at his son, he can see Xavier recognises it too "Unca Knock!" Xavier exclaims. More howling can be heard, it's coming from the Eastern perimeter, Alpha Knox is goading them, trying to draw them over to the East side. He's giving them a chance to escape. The soldiers take the bait, abandoning the truck and begin rushing over to the Eastern permitter. This is their chance, wasting no time, they crawl out from under the truck and make a dash in the opposite direction of Knox's howling. Spotting the old crates, they find the hole in the fence.

"Caspian shift, and jump the fence. Help me get Xavier through" commands Atlas. Caspian tears off his clothing, and transitions to fur. Leaping onto the crates and using all his werewolf strength to leap the tall fence, only just clearing it, landing on the other side. He quickly shifts back to skin form and reaches his hands though the hole.

"Xavier, hold onto Caspian's hands and squeeze yourself through the fence" Atlas pushes Xavier towards Caspian. Just then Atlas feels the cold hard metal of a pistol pointed at his temple.

"Stop or I'll shoot! Let go of the pup now, and they won't get hurt" says Simon. Caspian freezes and let's go of Xavier's hands, straightening up to stand, and stares at the CBC guard through the security fence.

"Caspian you fucking traitor! After all these years the CBC has cared for you, and you turn on us like this!" sneers Simon.

More CBC guards approach the scene and grab hold of Atlas and Xavier "lock them up in the cells" orders Simon, he shifts his pistol from Atlas's head towards Caspian. As the guards drag Atlas and Xavier away, Simon steadies his pistol, aiming at Caspian's heart.

"You know your father had come for you today, you were going to be released. Derek was going to surprise you. But you had to go and ruin the deal! It was meant to be a trade, you for Xavier. But now we have Xavier back, do we really need you? Traitor's don't deserve to live!" Just as Simon is about to pull the trigger and kill Caspian, a dart comes flying through the air, lodging itself into Simon's throat. Simon staggers back, dropping the pistol, and begins shaking violently in a seizure.

"I agree...traitors don't deserve to live" says Christie, as she steps out from behind a tree, she lowers her dart gun and approaches Caspian "poisoned dart, tipped with water hemlock, he'll be dead in five minutes".

Caspian turns around and staggers back, clutching at his heart, as he stares at the female, he's been dreaming of for almost four years now. For a moment he wonders if he's died, and he's seeing an angel sent by the goddess herself. He blinks a couple of times and his wolf surfaces confirming this is no apparition, this is their Mate!

Christie walks over to Caspian, looking sexy in her tight black tactical gear, with a gloved hand she grabs Caspian by the scruff of his neck and pulls his face down towards her, smashing her lips to his. A clash of a kiss, sparks of the bond erupting, leaving them both breathless and shaking. Weak at the knees, leaning his forehead against Christie, Caspian is about to speak, when Christie raises a finger to his mouth.

"Save it lover boy" she leans down and grabs a backpack off the ground, and throws it at his chest "get dressed, we have work to do!"
