Chapter 70 - A reckoning!

Knox is waiting, hidden in shrub, at the eastern border of the compound. He was successful in drawing the CBC soldiers towards him, with his howling, but now the soldiers have all dispersed. All he can do is wait anxiously at the rendezvous point. Hearing rustling sounds nearby, he turns to see Christie and Caspian emerge. Where is Atlas and Xavier?

Knox looks at Christie, as she shakes her head. She quickly relays what took place and confirms that Atlas and Xavier were recaptured during their escape attempt. Knox extends his hand to Caspian "so you must be the famous Caspian, I've heard so much about", Caspian looks confused as they shake hands.

"You've heard of me?" Caspian inquires.

"Your mother talks of you often, she never stopped believing you were alive. I have no doubt she is currently pacing back and forth, counting the minutes, until your return" replies Knox. Caspian looks startled.

"My mother? B-b-but I have no mother, she died in childbirth...at least that is what I was told..." he says, furrowing his brows.

Knox puts a hand on Caspian's shoulder "I can see we have much work to do, to reverse the CBC brain washing you have been subjected to. You have lived with humans for far too long, it's time for you to learn how to live amongst shifters. The goddess has blessed you with a very strong she-wolf as a mate, for now let her guide you in the way of wolves".

Caspian looks over at Christie and takes her hand "I have been blessed indeed. You are all I've thought about these past four years. My wolf and I could think of nothing else but escaping and coming to find you. It's what kept us going".

Christie squeezes his hand back "I know...it was the same for me. I tried to keep myself busy so I could forget I had a mate, but every night I dreamt of you. I made a promise to your mother, that I would bring you home. But first we need to rescue Atlas and Xavier, what should we do?" she asks looking over to Alpha Knox.

Knox begins to pace, looking worried "I made a pact with Alpha Knight, that if we couldn't get Atlas and Xavier out, that I would give him the signal. The rest will be in his hands".

"What will he do upon hearing the signal?"

"He plans to trade himself for the release of Atlas and Xavier. He's going to surrender himself to the CBC".

"No he can't do that! They will perform all kinds of horrible experiments on him; he will become their lab rat for life!" exclaims Caspian

"Not to mention they will surely double cross him, what if they recapture Atlas and Xavier?" Christie adds.

"We have a plan in place for that. Atlas and Xavier are to be released to me, before he enters the CBC compound. Knight will wait for my signal" replies Knox "I would be lying if I said I agreed with the plan, but this is Caden's decision...we must respect his choice. He made a solemn vow to Lily; one he refuses to break".

Knox semi shifts to fur form, and throws back his head, releasing a low-pitched continuous howl. This is his signal to Caden. The three of them quickly move into position, watching the entrance gate.

"Once Caden surrenders himself, they will release Atlas and Xavier. Once they are safely with us, I will give the signal, and the trade will be completed" says Knox and he focuses his binoculars on the compound gates. Knox notices some movement to the left of the compound entrance; a figure is moving in stealth towards the CBC soldier who is guarding the gate. Knox's hackles are raised; he can sense who it is. Emerging behind the solider, the figure shifts slightly to fur form, and slashes the guard's neck. The guard drops dead, and the figure steps forward to push the button, opening the gate. As the gate opens, and the hidden person steps into the open, Knox instantly recognises his arch enemy. Alpha Jacob Roberts emerges from the CBC compound and starts running while stripping his clothing, shifting to his wolf form, and sprinting towards the woods.

Knox turns to Christie and Caspian "I'm going after Jacob! You will need to give Caden the signal when Atlas and Xavier are released. Caspian make sure you get back safely to your mother. Tell Sophie, I will bring Jacob to justice, as I promised" before they can respond, Knox jumps into the air, shifting into his massive chocolate brown wolf, his clothes being torn to shreds with the violent shift. He sprints off towards the woods, hot on Jacob's trail.

"...and lastly Atlas and Xavier are locked in the cell room as instructed" reports Tony, the CBC guard, to Derek and Alpha Roberts.

Jacob stands and begins to pace the floor of the visitor's lounge. They have just been brought up to speed, on Caspian's escape and the recapture of Atlas and Xavier. "Where is Caspian, and who is helping him?" Jacob knows he needs to get to Caspian, before he reaches Sophie. It's his only way to lure Sophie back to Silver Moon. If he doesn't return with Caspian, will Sophie ever come back to him?

"Well...I think it's time I was leaving...I must get back to Silver Moon...I have already been gone too long" says Jacob, as he makes his way towards the door.

"Not so fast Jacob. Must I remind you; the compound is still in lock down. No one is to leave or enter the gates" says Derek, looking shrewdly at the visiting Alpha.

"Surely the lock down does not apply to me?" retorts the Alpha. Just then Tony re-enters the visitor's lounge "a phone call has just been received from Alpha Knight, he wishes to speak to you urgently. He is on hold, line 2, on your office phone" the guard reports.

Derek stands up immediately "Jacob wait here, while I take Knight's phone call. We will have further discussions when I return" Derek turns to the guard "Tony please ensure Alpha Roberts is made comfortable, bring him anything he requires, however he is not to leave this room. Is that understood?" Tony nods his head at Derek and gives Jacob a smirk. Derek exits the lounge, while Tony stands guard at the door, eyeing up the visiting Alpha.

Jacob sits back down in the lounge chair and takes a sip of his drink. He appears calm and unbothered at having to wait for Derek's return.

"Tony, are you hungry? I could use some lunch. Why don't we get something to eat together, I'm sure you must have a cafeteria of some sort in this compound?" inquires Jacob as he swirls his whiskey. Right on cue, Tony's stomach begins to grumble. With all the commotion, Tony hasn't managed to eat anything all day.

"Derek said you are not to leave this room!" retorts the guard.

"He also said, you are to bring me whatever I require. And right now, I require some lunch, and by the sounds of your stomach rumbling, you need something to eat too" says Jacob with a cocked eyebrow "how about this...why don't you get us some food, and lock me in the visitor's lounge? You could even station a guard outside the door, to ensure I don't get out. I assure you, I'm in no rush to go anywhere. I'm more than comfortable waiting here, with this fine whiskey to drink, and some good food coming my way. Maybe you could join me for a drink upon your return? I'm sure you could use one, after today's excitement"

Tony's stomach begins making even louder rumblings noises, it's becoming embarrassing. The thought of food and whiskey is making the guard almost salivate "Okay...I'll get us some food, but I will be locking the door and stationing a guard just outside. So you better not try to leave" says Tony.

"I promise you, I will not go anywhere near the door. Now hurry and get us some food, before Derek gets back. He might not be as lenient as myself, in allowing you to have a break and something to eat" with that said, Tony nods his head at the Alpha, and exits the room. The click of the door being locked can be heard. Jacob wastes no time, and heads to the lounge window, which he clocked on entry. He elongates his claws and begins picking the window lock, managing to jimmy it open. Sliding the window open, he stealthily climbs out and makes his escape.

As Knox runs into the woods, paws pounding the dirt, his wolf comes to the forefront of his mind. The blueblood Alpha catches the scent of Jacob's wolf, and he lets out a warning growl. He runs in hard pursuit. Remembering the vows to his beloved Eloise and their infant daughter, as they lay dying in his arms. He swore to the goddess he would avenge their deaths. He made a second vow to Sophie upon leaving her. He made a pact with Sophie, that he would ensure Caspian's safe return and he would also bring Jacob to justice for taking her son from her. In return Sophie made a solemn promise to him, one he expects her to keep upon his return. A reckoning was being brought to Alpha Jacob Roberts, and Alpha Knox would be the one to deliver it!
