Chapter 67 - Alpha Pup

Holding up a test tube to the light, Caspian examines his latest plasma extraction. Standing next to CBC's state of the art plasma machine, an automated device used to separate the plasma from the blood, Caspian is processing the latest Silver Moon donations. Caspian tries to stay busy, it's the only way he can get through his daily grind at the CBC. But ever since meeting a beautiful blonde she-wolf, his eyes have been wide open, he never stops watching, never stops listening. One day he will find his opening, one day he will escape the CBC. And when he escapes, he will find her again, the single thought that keeps his wolf and himself focused – finding their mate!

A CBC guard enters the lab "Caspian, Derek wants you to come to his office. He says he has something important to discuss with you".

Caspian furrows his brows, what does Derek want now? Removing his lab coat and safety glasses, he washes up, and follows the guard out. As they make their way through the large complex, heading towards Derek's office, they hear a commotion down one of the side corridors.

"Aww fuck! The little fucker bit my finger off!" screams a guard, running out into the main hallway in front of Caspian, holding his hand, blood spewing out.

"Caspian help! That little shifter bit my finger clear off, he's out of control!" A second guard rushes out, after the first one, limping and holding his ankle "he bit into my ankle too, I think he sliced a tendon". They hear more screams coming from down the corridor, along with growling and snarling.

The guard that was leading him to see Derek, scans the scene "Caspian, I'll take them to the clinic, you go and see if you can help with whatever emergency their dealing with down there".

Caspian heads down the side corridor, as the others take off towards the CBC clinic to get their injuries tended to. He enters a large room, where all chaos has broken out. Furniture has been overturned and broken, food thrown at the walls, blood smears on the floor. He spies a large cell, with metal bars, in one corner of the room. The CBC soldiers appear to be trying to herd someone or something into the jail cell. Caspian gets closer to take a look, and his blood runs cold at what he sees.

A little shifter boy pup is being backed into the cage by the soldiers. He has partially shifted, with elongated claws, fanged teeth, and wolf ears that are pinned back in anger. It is very rare for a pup to be able to shift, even partially, usually it only happens when you hit your teens. The shifter pup is snarling and snapping his jaws, one of the men approaches and grabs the boy by the arm, but the pup twists out of his hold, crawls up the man's body, slashing his face and somersaults off the man's shoulder over the top of the other men and runs towards the door, leading to the corridor, where Caspian is standing in front of the entrance.

"Throw me the cattle prod" says one of the larger muscle bound soldiers. They toss the soldier the prod and he runs after the pup, sparking it to life. The solider manages to grab onto the running pup's T-Shirt "I'm going to teach you a lesson boy, you're going to learn to obey" the soldier sneers as brings the charge prod down towards the boys neck. Just as the man is about prod the pup full of painful electric volts, the boy is snatched up. Caspian holds the pup, as he blocks the prod with his forearm. An electric shock goes through Caspian's arm, and Caspian growls out, knocking the prod out of the soldier's arms.

"What the hell do you think you're doing? Have you gone crazy? This is only a little boy. You could kill him with that thing?!" Caspian yells out towards the men. The little shifter pup, whimpers, and clings to Caspian. The pup can sense a fellow wolf, and instinctively feels safe being held in Caspian's strong arms.

"That's no ordinary little boy! He's strong, like nothing we've ever seen before. He's badly injured four of our men already. Derek says he's a blue blood Alpha pup" answers the large soldier.

Caspian stills at hearing this, and glances down at the whimpering boy. A blue blood Alpha pup? Where did he come from? The poor pup looks exhausted, tired from all the physical exertion.

"Wow he seems to be settling with you Caspian. Can you put him in the cell for us, so we can lock him up for the night?"

Caspian looks over at the cell with iron bars, and cringes at the thought of putting the pup in there for the night. He begins having flashbacks of his childhood. Memories he thought were long buried, are beginning to re-surface. Remembering cruel punishments he received for misbehaving, being locked up in cages, and going without food. He trembles with the thought of history repeating itself with another wolf pup.

"I'll take the boy to my quarters and look after him" says Caspian "he can sleep with me tonight"

"We've been told he needs to be locked up. He needs to go into the cage" with hearing those words, the pup lifts his head and snarls at the solider, flashing his fangs at him.

"Hey Tony, maybe we should just let Caspian take him for the night" pipes up the soldier, whose face was slashed up by the pup's claws. He's bleeding profusely. The rest of the men nod in agreement, they are all looking worse for wear, and are exhausted from battling the shifter pup. If Caspian is willing to take care of the pup for the night, that's one less thing they need to worry about.

"Are you hungry? I bet you haven't eaten all day, have you?" says Caspian, as he places the pup on his bed, and walks over to his small kitchenette to heat up the meals he grabbed from the cafeteria "my name is Caspian, what's your name?"

"Xavier" answers the pup

"Xavier, that's a cool name. How old are you Xavier?"

"Three and a bit"

Caspian looks startled at what Xavier's age is. Xavier looks much older than three, Caspian would have thought he was at least six. After eating their macaroni and cheese meals, he gives Xavier a shower and dresses him in some PJs that were dropped off for the boy. He tucks Xavier into his bed, and pulls the covers up to his chin.

"I want my mama and papa" whimpers Xavier, and tears begin to roll down the little boy's cheeks.

"Hey now, don't cry. I promise you everything will be alright. Do you want me to cuddle you for a bit?"

Xavier nods. Caspian climbs into bed, and Xavier snuggles into him, still sobbing quietly. Caspian holds Xavier and whispers into his ear "I'm going to help you Xavier, we're going to escape together, and I'm going to get you back to your mama and papa. I promise you". Xavier clings to Caspian's T-Shirt, and falls to sleep, lulled by the soothing words and being held by Caspian's strong arms.

Caspian wakes with a start, he glances over at his bedside clock, the neon lights telling him it's only 3.30am. Xavier is still snuggled into his chest sleeping soundly. Then the smell of another wolf hits him, before he has time to think, a male-wolf emerges from the shadows of the corner of his room. The large male quickly jumps onto Caspian's chest, and wraps his hands around his neck, and begins squeezing.

"Hand my son over and prepare to die, you traitorous CBC mutt. I'm going to snap your neck and stomp on your skull, for taking my child".

Xavier stirs and wakes up, opening his eyes "Papa! You're here!"

Xavier jumps up and throws his arms around his father's neck, hugging him.

"Xavier close your eyes, and put your hands over your ears"

"Papa, why are you hurting Caspy?" Xavier says, just now noticing how his father is strangling Caspian "please don't hurt him papa, he saved me from the bad men that wanted to put me in a cage. Caspy is my friend".

"I...I...I...ca-can...he-help" Caspian stutters out through strangled breaths.  Xavier touches his father's hand.

"No papa, stop papa" he pleads.  Atlas looks at his son and eases his grip on Caspian's neck.  Caspian takes in deep breaths, and rubs his neck, he begins to regain composure "I can help you escape" he says, looking Atlas in the eye "but I have one condition".

"And what is that?" asks Atlas

"You take me with you!"
