Darasimi's POV
TWO MONTHS LATER...
"Babe, I have to go. Lunch is over, and Mr. Tolu said we have an important meeting." I said into the phone, as I pressed it firmly between my ear and shoulder while packing my plates together.
"Alright, I'll pick you up later. I love you." Yemi replied.
"I love you too, bye," I said and hung up before jogging to meet up with the rest of the group.
I have finally finished my bar exam, and anything that had to do with school, well, unless I decide to do my master's. Although it was hectic, Yemi was the best study buddy and confidant I ever had. He was patient with me when I was tired and always helped me. After my studies, the head of the foundation, where I did my two weeks of training, asked me to come back for the full six-month internship. I was excited about the call and accepted immediately, and now, one month later, I have already started working here.
Praise and I still keep in touch as she decided to continue her path in business law, so she was asked to have her internship at a private law firm in Ibadan, Oyo state. I was sad that we were parting like that, but since it was where she lived, with her parents, it wasn't much of a problem for her.
I followed my colleagues till we were back in our office, only to see that Mr. Tolu wasn't alone but with an older man, who was cladded in a black suit and tie attire.
"May I have your attention, please?" Mr. Tolu said as he walked from his desk till he was standing in the middle of our desks. We all stopped what we were doing and paid attention.
"This is Mr. Akande. He is the head of the legal team in Osun state, and he's here because of the recruitment plan for the field experience. I'll let him speak." Mr. Tolu said and gestured for the man to speak.
"Good afternoon, everyone. As your team head has said, I'm Akande Joseph, and my team and I are heading a series of cases where the abuse of children and other crimes have been committed. The police recently arrested one of the most dangerous men in society. He came to Osun state in hiding, but he and his men still committed crimes like human trafficking, rape, domestic violence, and underage child marriage." My breath hitched at the words this man was spewing.
I couldn't believe there were more of them. My heart drummed violently within me as I struggled to keep my composure.
"The police arrested them and, in the process, freed fifteen people from human trafficking, including young children. We are investigating this man and his men, and because we are the foundation with the most revered system of law, the state has issued us with the task of spearheading the case along with the prosecution." I listened very intently. I wanted to know the man's name.
"Unfortunately, that's all the information we have as of now, and because of the various crimes, we see this as an avenue to train our lawyers. This is why the team has been chosen for the recruitment plan. We will be traveling down to Osun state by next Wednesday. Any question or objection?" The older man asked, and I couldn't stop myself from raising my hands.
"What's the man's name?" I questioned.
"Oh, his name is Mallam Shekau."
And just like that, my heart stopped beating. What? How? What is happening?
"Dara, are you okay?" My head snapped up to Gabriel. Yes, he was still here, but that's not the case. I turned my gaze to everyone in the room, and they all had confusion on their faces. I looked at myself to see that I had moved back more than I should.
"Does the chairwoman know about this?" My voice was so small that I wondered how they heard me.
"Of course, she gave the go-ahead," The older man said.
