I slammed the car door shut and didn't wait to check if it was locked as I walked ever so briskly into the big building.

The car, given to me by Adeyemi, was the least of my problems. I remember the day he gave it to me; he had said that I shouldn't let Grace take public transportation to school when I could drop her off, myself. I had protested so much that I didn't want to be gifted a car from him, because I wanted to buy mine. His face had held disappointment, but he wouldn't collect it back, so I made a deal with him that I'd take it if I paid for it myself. We had settled on me paying ten percent of the amount of the car, crazy, right?

Before security opened the door to the building, my footsteps were jammed on the concrete floor, which was then tiled. I couldn't even smile and greet the kind security man as I always did whenever I visited this place; instead, my focus was on the elevator. No one stopped me because most of them knew me; it was like an unspoken rule that I was welcome here anytime.

I dashed into the elevator and pressed the button, leading to the fifth and final floor. It felt like hours, but I was in the elevator when it was merely five minutes.

Not wasting any more time, I walked so fast, it could be considered jogging until I was standing in front of his secretary's table. Her desk, which was a bit high enough to reach my shoulders, wasn't in an office; instead, it was just outside the big double doors. My breathing was calm, but what I was feeling was anything but.

"Miss Dara? We weren't expecting you." Sarah, the beautiful and kind secretary, said as she looked at me with worry. I always called to inform her before I came, but I didn't even have the time, nor the thoughts to do so.

"P-please, is he in?" I stuttered at first.

"Yes bu.." I didn't wait for her to say anything else as I just turned and barged into his office.

"What did I sa..." His deep voice almost made me crumble. I stayed rooted in my steps as our eyes met, and he stopped talking.

I didn't bother myself about the people in the room; I knew who they were, but I just stared at the man who had become my confidant and best friend and, recently, fiancé.

"Gentlemen, let's talk some other time," he sounded polite, but everyone knew it was an order to get out. The men didn't even complain as they saw themselves out, some giving me curious glances as they left.

I sighed in relief and almost fell when strong arms latched onto me like an anchor. My head nestled into his chest, and my body slumped into his, as his arms wrapped me in a warm embrace.

"They found him, Jedi, they found him. He's still alive. I thought he was dead, I wished he was dead, I wanted him to stay dead. Why is he still alive, Jedi? Why do I have to go where he is?" I rambled, and the tears I had struggled to hold in came pouring out like a waterfall. Yemi, or as I call him, Jedi, just sighed, like he knew.

"She called and told me what happened. I was about to come get you." He tightened his hold on me and nestled his head in the crook of my neck, breathing in and out slowly.

He always did this when he was angry. He claimed that I could calm him down, but right now, he was the one calming me. He was my haven.

"I can't go there; I won't. She claims that I need to get rid of the fear that he was doing to me whenever I thought he wasn't dead, but I just can't see him again, Jedi." I voiced my fears. My worst fear of Shekau being alive and surviving that accident tormented me in the past, and now, it's torturing me.

It just came back to haunt me.

"I know, my love. And as much as it pains me to say, she's right." My head snapped up to set straight into his eyes.
