"Kate! Please come in." Yemi exclaimed as he rushed to clean his mouth while I just stood there, subtly staring at the woman before us.

This was Kate?

I was expecting an older woman of some sort, not a woman who looked like a princess. She had an air of elegance, and her entire stance was so graceful that you'd think she was royalty. Wearing a black bodycon gown adorned with a gold belt at the waist, her figure stood out like those in the movies. She wasn't dark or fair-in-complexion like we'd use for Nigerians; no, this woman was white. Her hair was styled and packed into a tight low bun, and her icy blue eyes gave away nothing of warmth.

She was beautiful.

Who was this woman?

"Why didn't you call me when you landed?" Yemi's voice made me turn my gaze away from the woman; it was obvious that I had been staring at her.

My gaze landed on Yemi, who was no longer by my side but walking towards the woman who reeked of elegance.

"I thought a nice surprise would be in store, but you were choking on your PA." Her British accent carried a hint of wariness as she looked from me to Yemi before stretching her hand out for him.

I knew that gesture, she wanted him to kiss her hand.

I stared at Yemi, only to see him chuckling confidently as he took her hand but placed his other hand on it, like a greeting. A sigh of relief escaped me silently.

Why was I acting like this? Was I jealous? That can't be it; I didn't even know this woman.

"Have your seat, Kate," Yemi gestured for her to have her seat before coming up to meet me.

"And this beautiful woman is not my PA but my girlfriend." I snapped my head at him as he placed his arms around my waist.

He looked confident. He looked proud.

What was going on?

"Oh. Won't you introduce us?" the woman, who has since been identified as Kate, said with little regard as she stared at me for a few seconds before turning her gaze back to Yemi and letting a smile take over her face.

"Right. Kate, this is Darasimi Ayobami, my girlfriend, and Love, this is Kate Williams, my business partner." Yemi said as he walked us over to the woman.

"Hello, Miss Kate, nice to meet you," I said, with a small smile as I held out my hand for her to shake. She looked from me to my hand before deciding to place hers in mine.

"Yes, indeed, Dara, the pleasure is all mine." Her sarcastic tone didn't go unnoticed as she gave me a firm shake.

I had a wary feeling about this woman. I let go of our hands and turned to Yemi in question.

"I didn't know you had business partners; what company do you run?" I said this to start a conversation and let go of the weird tension in the air. Kate must have thought I asked an obvious question as she scoffed loudly, making me turn my gaze to her with my brows arched.

"I run the most elite coding company in England. You probably wouldn't understand; that's why he never told you. We are close partners." How she said partners left a bitter taste on my tongue, making me squint my eyes in curiosity.

"We just started as business partners early last year, love. Her company helps us with international deals from around the world." Yemi explained making me nod, before peeking at the woman who held a smug look on her face.

Why did the beautiful ones have to be the annoying ones?

"Oh, I see. Well, I guess you have a meeting and things to discuss; I will leave you to it, and you, young man, need to finish eating so you can have your meal while discussing," I said, placing a hand on Yemi's shoulders and making him smile softly.

"That wouldn't be appropriate," he said, but he needed to eat. He wasn't taking good care of himself. I knew the stress of having two companies and multiple branches could cause one to neglect themselves.

"I'm having none of it. If it helps, why not turn this into a breakfast meeting? We can order some food for Miss Kate since you said she just landed. Would that be alright, Miss Kate?" I said in a firm voice that had sweetness in it.

"I am starved, but I would prefer we go out to eat," she said in a sultry voice, which made me chuckle.

Oh no, not that easy.

"Oh, his food is already here, and we wouldn't want to waste time, money, and effort, now, would we? The secretary is great at her job and will have your food in ten minutes." I didn't bother to hear her reply before buzzing the secretary.

"Oh, okay then. I'll have a plate of chicken salad," Kate responded, looking like she was at a loss as I gestured for her to give her order. Relaying her message to the secretary, I hung up, placed my hands on Yemi's shoulders, and then plopped him on the chair opposite Kate.

"Now, you sit there, eat, and have your meeting. I will be going over some case assignments in your main chair," I said, and whoa, I felt like I was in charge.

I'm not quite sure what I did was alright, but seeing as he smiled gratefully at me, I took it as a job well done.

Thirty minutes in, Kate and Yemi were both immersed in their discussion, having eaten while I sat in his wheelchair and focused on my assignments. I had to video chat with Praise and the rest on some debates about the case, and we hung up after another fifteen minutes of our debate.

I sighed, closed my eyes, and placed my hand on my temple to massage it as I rested backward on the chair. Opening my eyes, I settled my gaze on the woman who looked like a royal and my boyfriend as they gingerly discussed, and couldn't help but compare myself to her. They didn't seem to notice me and probably thought I was asleep.

She was beautiful, and her skin looked so smooth while mine was tainted with scars on my stomach, back, and shoulders. Her black hair shined under the light while mine was dull and rough from having been done three weeks ago. I wondered if their relationship was platonic. She looked so calm, so free with him, and even smiled when he wasn't looking.

I shook my head at my thoughts. I shouldn't compare myself to her. She may be smooth-skinned and flawless, but I had scars to prove I could survive anything thrown my way. I sat there, battling with my intrusive thoughts, until something caught my eye.

Kat, or whatever her name was, leaned forward and placed her hand on his hair. She ran her hand on it until Yemi stopped her by placing his hand on hers and letting it drop before putting his back to re-adjust his hair. He looked tired of what they were talking about, while Kate simply smiled seductively. I turned my ear to what they were saying.

"You know you have to come back at some point, right? You don't need to take anything with you, and you can always place someone in your position here." What was she talking about?

"I'm not leaving until I am done with everything I'm here for, business or personal." Yemi's tone was firm, but that didn't make her back down as she crouched forward. Noting that she could easily touch him again unsettled me, so I did the one thing that came to my mind. I fell forward so my head would come in contact with the desk.

I let out a cry, which must have snapped them out of their conversation, as Yemi was by my side in an instant.

"Ara, are you okay?" Yemi's concerned voice almost made me laugh. Why did I act so impulsively?

It worked, didn't it? My subconscious felt justified. The small guilt I felt vanished as I took in Kate's annoyed look.

Indeed, it did.
