10 MONTHS LATER
I woke up with a groan.
I had been studying non-stop for the upcoming bar exam, and it had been nothing but exhausting. I had graduated from the University six months ago with a second class uppers honors and enrolled in law school. The good thing, though, was that Praise, Adeola, Anjola, and I enrolled in the same place due to our connections with the Coker family, and as such, we have been doing a group study. Law school seemed to go faster than I anticipated and as much as I loved it like that, it was super exhausting.
My supervisor had been grilling me non-stop; presentations have been back-to-back and the bar exam was just two months away.
I turned on the bed to check the time, and it read 8:52 am. Sighing, I threw off the covers and stood to my feet. I let out an unladylike yawn and stretched my arms and legs. It was Friday, and since I had promised Yemi that I'd come over to the company, I might as well get ready early.
I skipped into the bathroom, careful not to wake the others. We decided to take an apartment for all four of us, which consisted of two bedrooms with an en-suite bathroom, a sitting room, and a kitchen.
I took a quick shower, allowing the cold water to wake me up, and then brushed my teeth before stepping out and walking to the wardrobe. Deciding to keep it simple, I picked out a flower-patterned gown that fitted my body, highlighting the shape I never knew I had. I wore the gown after putting on my undergarments and sat in front of the long-standing mirror, to pack my braids into a pony-tail, then I applied little brown powder on my face, and lip gloss on my lips.
I placed my phone, purse, note books, textbooks and pen cases into my small black tote bag and decided to wear a matching pair of black sandals.
A sudden knock on the door made me jump slightly, and I placed a hand over my chest to calm my breathing. I gently tapped Praise to tell her I was leaving and walked to open the front door.
"Good morning, ma'am," was the first thing I heard, making me look up with a smile at the tall man in front of me.
"Good morning, Anthony. I've told you to please call me by my name. Do I have to threaten you to do that?" I asked in mock anger as I huffed at the broad-looking man.
Anthony was Yemi's driver, who had recently turned to mine because Yemi pretty much demanded it, claiming that since I didn't know how to drive yet and he wanted to gift me a car for my last birthday, this was the closest thing to do. I argued, alright, mostly because I didn't want to leech off him and it would feel kind of weird having my driver, but no, he said, Anthony could teach me.
Teach me, he did. I was glad to have Tony as my teacher, because I had learned somethings in no time but I didn't want Yemi gifting me a car, so, I made a deal that, I would continue to use Tony as my driver, until I saved enough to buy mine on my own.
"It's still weird. C'mon, the boss is waiting. He had been in and out of meetings since 6 am and his employees are feeling the heat. So, we kind of need you to save the day." I chuckled at his complaint.
Working Yemi was totally different from boyfriend Yemi. When he was at work, then it was full business mode, he didn't like lateness, or incompetence and I'm sure his qualities are what made him who he was today. Not that I'm complaining.
"I feel like wonder woman. What's wrong this time?" I asked because I knew Yemi had been a bit stresses these past couple of days, which was why I was going to see him. It was a Saturday and he was still working.
"Not sure. I don't always know what's going on inside, just that some people made a huge mistake." Anthony explained as we got into the car, and he drove off.
