Setbacks

Daniel's POV

The doctor already explained it in detail but my mind still fails to register what he just said. I am seated in his office looking into Y'vania's file.

"Does anyone else know about this?"

I ask the doctor who is looking at me apologetically. I can't blame him. His team did the best work saving my fiancee.

"Not yet. We had to tell you first as her next of kin. If you're able to you can tell her the news yourself and we will be there to explain it in detail."

I really don't know how to tell Y'vania this. This is huge. It's like a boulder that's going to crash her into tiny pieces. She is progressing well. She opened her eyes a few hours ago but not completely. She has been drifting in and out of consciousness. The doctors say it's usual and they expect her to fully wake up in about two to three hours. I can't wait for her to open her eyes I want her to be okay.

Just a few hours ago I was thinking and practicing how to tell her that Anthony, her first love and the father of her son is dead. I thought that was the hardest job I had to do. I know Y'vania loves me now but Anthony is someone she fought for so hard. She prayed and hoped that they would end up together and that they would raise their son as a complete family.

With me, she had to learn how to love again. She learnt to love me after knowing that I was going to be around her forever and that I was never backing out. She knew I loved her from the beginning, even before Anthony came into the picture.

Maybe if Anthony had not entered the picture she would have said yes to me. She was starting to have feelings for me. I saw it in the way that she looked at me, the way she kissed me and the way she pretended to ignore me. There was always a wave of tenderness in her eyes but she always knew how to control it and acting like she hated me.

She almost confessed her feelings for me one day when I went to her place of work. I told her I loved her as I was leaving and she stopped herself from saying it back. She quickly changed it to like when she was about to say love. I smiled and stepped out feeling confident. That's the day that I decided I was going to pay for her treatment and I knew that we would end up together because Y'vania loved me from the beginning.

Anthony came in and swept my woman off her feet with pretense romance. He made her believe in love then left her stranded in the middle. It hurt me when she said that she was in love with someone else. I went back home and thought about it. If she was in love with someone else why did she kiss me back with so much passion? Why didn't she resist the kiss?

It was a brief kiss and I did it feeling scared that I was going to get humiliated in front of my friends. When I told my friends that I was looking for my girl she turned and the way she looked at me I knew she was upset with my statement. When I kissed her she paused for seconds then kissed me back, holding onto me.

I can't forget the sigh and the way she looked at me when she ended the kiss. It was just for seconds but she looked at me in a way that screamed love. She covered it up quickly and started pulling me out of the restaurant.

That wasn't the first time she kissed me and pretended she didn't care. There were so many times afterwards and even before that. She kissed me even after telling me she was in love with someone else. On the day that I signed the cheque for her treatment, I took her home for about a half an hour.
She was already dating Anthony by then but when we met at the restaurant she hugged me and held me for more than two minutes. She sat on my lap and later claimed that we were just good friends we could hug each other without worrying.

I told her right there that it turned me on and she replied jokingly that I was her bad boy and she enjoyed turning me on. I think she didn't mean it to come out that way because she blushed crimson red after saying it or maybe she did mean it because she didn't get up until our food had been brought.
