Daniel's POV
"Are you getting cold feet buddy?"
"Me? Why? It's just a church wedding Hayden."
"When was the last time you set foot in a church? You know God himself can decide to strike you with thunder because of your sins."
He says as everyone laughs out loud. I throw an empty shoe box at him and he catches it with his left hand as he reaches out for his pair of socks on the bed.
Typical football hands.
My friends and I are getting ready for my wedding. As usual my best friend Hayden is driving me crazy. I had missed my friends. Cody, Hayden, Chase and Kevin. We used to call ourselves The City Crew back in highschool. Woodland High really shaped me into the man I am today. Am glad I didn't stay in Starlight academy where all the snobby spoilt brats of Buckhead and Tuxedo Park went to school.
I was suspended for fighting and my father got so angry that he punished me by taking me to a public school where according to him, all the riff-rafs with no purpose in life went to. I was in Sophomore year. When I joined Woodland the boys welcomed me in and we became a tight group. All of them belong to influential families in Tuxedo part but due to different reasons they ended up in Woodland like me.
Am really glad my father took me to Woodland because that's where I met my Y'vania. The mother of my children, the woman that I am marrying today.
I get hit by the empty shoebox.
"Thinking about confessing your sins before mass?"
"Shut up Hayden. I hope you still have the rings. I hope the strippers didn't steal them."
The rest of the boys laugh at that as Hayden pats his suit pocket confirming that the rings are safe. Just then, Javier comes in already dressed. He is also a part of my groomsmen but he slept in his room. He left earlier with Jeff and the rest of us went on with the crazy bachelor party that Hayden had planned for me.
He had promised a simple bachelor party for me but it got crazy and everyone is hungover but we have to act normal so that Y'vania won't find out.
Elio comes running as usual. He is already dressed. He is growing into a strong two year old. He climbs up the bed, kisses me on the cheek and says,
"From Ma." Then runs out again giggling happily. I know Y'vania sent him out so she could get ready. Am sure he was touching the make up or hair products or disturbing the nanny or the baby and he got kicked out.
Baby Mila came in early April weighing 7.5 pounds. She came in screaming with all her might demanding attention from the very beginning. It was an easy birth compared to what we had to deal with during Elio's birth.
Elio had just approached twenty months and he kept on asking Y'vania why her tummy was big and imitating how she walked. It was funny. It's still funny even now when I think about it.
He comes in again and says,
"Ma say go now!"
"Really Champ? Why did she kick you out?"
He shrugs crossing his hands on his chest with a pout.
"So she kicked you out for no reason?"
He nods and I laugh at that putting on my shoes. Everyone else is ready and it's time to head out to the wedding venue.
Elio is so talkative nowadays he says lots of stuff and some are lies or imitations of what someone else said. It's now that I see the importance of Y'vania's no swearing policy. Elio picks up on everything said or done. He is my little best friend. He is totally a daddy's boy despite being territorial around Y'vania.
