Anthony's POV
She comes in and sits across me saying nothing. She stares at me. I realize how pale she looks, her hair is in complete and utter mess and the tears she's about to shed. I decide to speak first.
"How are you feeling Y'vania?"
She shakes her head and says quietly
"I can't. I can't do this anymore."
"Don't give up so easily Y'vania what's wrong?"
"I feel like someone is dragging me two steps back when I try to make one step ahead."
"Don't say all that. It's all going to be over. Just tell me you want to get treated and everything will be okay. It will all be done."
"It's just the same thing. It will be over too when I die but It feels so bad. I'll miss my sisters and friends."
"The only option is to get treated."
"You think it's that easy as you say? My father isn't Donald Trump for oreos sake I don't own evey bank account in this bloody country!"
What? This is unusual. Why is she angry?
"Y'vania money isn't a problem compared to-"
"Money isn't a problem? Are you going gaga? Oh yes I forgot that you come from money. I can't explain to you what being poor or lacking money is."
I am taken back by her words. I didn't mean to intimidate her in terms of social class.
"It's not what you think Y'vania I-"
"No. Just let me be. This is the last time stepping into this office. I never want to see your face again. I don't need any help and you won't lose a pound if I die."
"What? Y'vania wait."
I say standing up as she goes out slamming the door behind her. I decide to go after her.
Yes. That's what a man does.
I catch up with her as she's hurriedly walking down the hallway. I hold her hand. She turns and glares at me coldly her lips pursed into a straight line. Our eyes meet and the spark in her eyes gives me shivers. She tilts her head and narrows her eyes then asks,
"What do you want from me? Just let me go."
I tighten the grip on her hand and say,
"I am sorry Y'vania. It's only because am afraid of losing you. I wish you knew how special you are to me. You made me realize the true meaning of friendship. I can't afford to lose another special person."
I wasn't planning to spit all this it just came out but I think it works. She goes quiet and then sighs heavily. I go on.
"I am sorry. I didn't mean to bring her up again but I can't stop thinking that I'll lose you if I don't do this."
"It's okay. It's painful losing someone you shared a life since the moment you were conceived but don't compare Ariel with me because if I die you won't feel the same pain you felt for her. She was your twin sister and I am just some random girl who only came into your life to remind you that Aplastic anaemia still exists.
Don't you find it weird or sad or don't you see me as a bother because I really am. That's why I don't want you to ever see my face again because I remind you of Ariel. Doctor Alvarez is back I think I should go back to him being my doctor."
Her voice is now raised and edged with anger.
"No Y'vania I am not tired of you. You're not a bother. Just let me do this."
"Do what? You think you can buy my health just because your entire family members are doctors?
Let.me.be. I need to be alone Anthony I don't need any freaking help!"
With this she forcefully lets go off her hand and starts running. Someone can mistake us for lunatics but I just can't let her go. I finally catch up with her and this time round I hold her as if some devil is about to grab her. She's now sobbing uncontrollably and hitting me trying to free herself from my grip. After some minutes of holding her tight she stops sobbing. I feel so bad that such a strong girl like her can feel broken at some point in life. I've never seen her cry with so much pain in her. It's the first time that I see tears dropping down her pretty face and it hurts me so much. She lets go off me and says,
"Thank you for caring but I can't accept anything from you. I won't die."
"Y'vania what's wrong with you? Can't you just let go off this pride of yours and let me help you? You need to get treated. You need to tell your family about this they deserve to know. What you're doing isn't fair."
I say in a pleading tone. I notice someone coming slowly towards us from the other end of the hallway busy staring at his phone. Y'vania speaks angrily,
"Not fair? What's fair? Telling them and hurting them knowing that I have a very low chance of survival? Milking each and every coin out of them for my illness and then some last few coins for my burial and you call it fair? No I won't."
She then turns and doesn't notice the other guy walking towards her wearing a questioning look until they bump into each other or I'd rather say Y'vania bumps into him. She looks at him in surprise then starts running again but not so fast. Am so confused that I don't know what I am saying anymore. I shout at her to stop. She stops running and walks slowly at first then increases her pace. I notice that the boy is following us and I can guess he heard our conversation and he knows Y'vania but I don't care at the moment. As she nears the elevator. I blurt out what I really feel.
