WHEN DADDY LEFT

Doctor, doctor

Daniel's POV

She hasn't woken up for the past eight hours. The doctor assured us that her vitals are back to normal but I am still scared. I want her to wake up even if her memory is all mixed up and nothing she says makes sense. I still want to see her awake, laughing and talking to me. I just want to hold her and hear her voice.

She didn't have the engagement ring when she was brought in. It was brought later on by Anthony's brother. He said it was found in his pants pocket and the only way he knew it was Y'vania was because the ring was engraved with her name on the inner side. I take it out of my pocket and slide it back on her finger. It looks good on her. It fits perfectly on her finger and the stones look so breathtaking in the light.

I went with Javier to buy the ring. He came up with the design and the jewelry shop customized it for me, engraving her name inside. I am glad I consulted him because he picked up the best choice and Y'vania loved it. She couldn't stop staring at it for days after the proposal.

I am scared of bringing Elio in to see his mother. As soon as she wakes up I'll try preparing her mentally before bringing Elio in.

It's almost midnight when she stirs awake. I help her sit up and she asks for water.

After sitting in silence for some minutes she turns her gaze towards me and asks,

"Why are you looking at me?"

"Because I love you. You're so beautiful my lovely wifey."

She blushes for seconds then looks at me. Right now she is acting different. She isn't staring into space or having memory lapses but she looks like she has something on her mind she wants to let out.

"Danny. I am sorry for yelling at you earlier. I was so confused and angry but am going to be okay right?"

I nod and kiss her hand, never taking my eyes off her. She's able to maintain eye contact with me and her pupils are no longer dilated. I am starting to wonder what happened that changed everything. She speaks up,

"Danny was I shot? Who was shot? I heard a gunshot but not here. Somewhere else I don't remember."

Did she just remember about Anthony being shot? Did the gunshot earlier trigger a memory?
She goes on,

"The more I try thinking about it the more confusing it gets. My head hurts a lot when I try to remember something."

"My love, you don't have to force yourself to remember everything at once."

"Tell me everything. Tell me what happened. Then we'll talk about therapy for my spinal cord injury."

She tries to lean and I get up and lean towards her. She kisses me passionately then pulls back and giggles like a small girl causing me to laugh.

When I tell her about my version of what happened she goes quiet. Really quiet. I start getting scared that I might've triggered her breakdown again. She speaks up.

"So Anthony is dead. Is that what you mean by 'he didn't make it' or what do you mean?"

I nod getting ready for the worse. She chuckles and crosses her hands on her chest. She winces then asks,

"Elio. Where is Elio I think it's feeding time for my champ. Whatever mess Anthony got himself into I don't care. May his soul rest in peace."

My mouth stays wide open. I expected her to look more sad or highly emotional but I can see complete hatred in her eyes.

"Babe. Anthony is Elio's father."

"So what? He has never been close to his son atleast now I won't have to confuse my son with two different fathers. Can we end the topic please."
